Edwin Leroy Cotterman Obituary

Edwin Leroy Cotterman was born on November 9, 1933 in Pt. Jefferson, Ohio to Edward and Catherine (Bitner) Cotterman (deceased).

On October 28, 2021, Edwin celebrated 66 years with the “love of his life” Shirley Ann (Rumpff) Cotterman. Edwin was an incredible father to his two daughters, Lori Ann Werling (Mark Jordan) and Lisa Lyn (Lonnie) Werling. He thought of Lonnie as the son he never had and enjoyed teaching him everything he knew.  His life was both blessed and a blessing to four granddaughters Heather Leigh (Matt Creasey), Tabitha, Brooke Lyn, and Emily. He was not only a grandpa but a “great” grandpa to Averi Grace, Braxton, and Zenna Jo.

He had one sister, Noreen Hughes (deceased) and many nieces & nephews.

Mr. Cotterman had a strong work ethic and worked for 49 years at Wagner Manufacturing (General Housewares). He started his career by unloading train cars of pig iron and then becoming a molder and shake out man in the iron foundry. After many years in the iron foundry, he was transferred to the aluminum foundry where he retired as the aluminum foreman. Edwin made many lifelong friends and loved to relive stories of some of his antics at Wagner‘s.

Edwin loved to read anything and everything he could get his hands on and was a self-taught jack of all trades who could tear anything apart and fix it. He prided himself in building the house he lived in as well as houses for each of his daughters and their families.

Edwin was a lifelong deer hunter and enjoyed going on wild game hunts with friends before he & Shirley started their family. Once he had a family, he enjoyed planning a vacation each year in his Pace Arrow motorhome and took his family on many unforgettable adventures. Later in life he enjoyed visiting Las Vegas a couple times a year with his family and friends as well as taking bus trips to various casinos.

In Edwin’s younger years he raced stock cars at Shady Bowl and was quite an accomplished driver. In his final years, he enjoyed relaxing with his beautiful wife and their Persian cat, Baby while they watched NASCAR races or western movies.

One of Edwin’s proudest accomplishments was being a blood donor for over 40 years.

With the passing of Edwin, “A great source of knowledge has truly been lost”.

Private graveside services will be held at 1:00 p.m. with family at Pearl Cemetery on Wednesday, November 10, 2021, with Pastor Doug Thobe officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to Wilson Health Hospice or Shelby County Ohio Humane Society.  Condolences may be expressed to the family at www.theadamfuneralhome.com.
