Donald "Butch" Marthaler Obituary

Donald (Butch) Marthaler, age 79, of Cannon Falls, died on Saturday, Nov. 6, 2021, at the Mayo Clinic Hospital, Methodist Campus, in Rochester.

Donald Joseph (Butch) Marthaler was born on Nov. 21, 1941, in St. Paul, the son of Joseph and Theresa (Blaeser) Marthaler. He grew up there and graduated from Sibley High School. Following graduation, Butch began farming with his family, a career he had the rest of his working life. In August of 1978, Butch was married to Marlys Buck. They were members of St. Pius V Catholic Church in Cannon Falls. Butch was also a member of the Randolph volunteer fire department and the Randolph Township Board of Supervisors for 40+ years. He enjoyed playing golf, watching westerns, sports – especially hockey and football, and happy hour with friends. His greatest enjoyment came from time spent with family members, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

Survivors include his wife Marlys, his children Wendy (fiancé Jay Schlomann) Marthaler, Randy (Julie) Ryan, Jody (Paul) Meyers, Deanna (Bruce) Plonsky, Tracey (Kevin) Weckop, and Troy (Winifred) Ryan; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; sisters Mary (Marschall) McDonough and JoAnne (John) Southworth; brother Raymond (Betty) Marthaler; sister-in-law Kay Lee Henderson; as well as many nieces and nephews. Butch was preceded in death by his parents, his grandson Elmer Ryan, brother Joe (Jeanette) Marthaler and brother-in-law Ed Henderson.

Mass of Christian Burial will be on Thursday, Nov. 11, at 11:00 am, at St. Pius V Catholic Church, 410 W. Colvill, Cannon Falls, MN, 55009. There will be a visitation there from 9 am until the time of the service. Interment will be in the St. Pius V Catholic Cemetery.
