Billie Faye Sanders-Kusenberger Obituary

She is known by many for her golden fried fish, perfectly greasy hamburgers, and precise peaks on the meringue of her pies, but those nearest to her heart will remember her selfless love.

Billie Faye Bryan was born to W.J. "Durb" and Dovie Bryan on March 20, 1939, and died November 6, 2021, in San Augustine. As one of nine children and the eldest daughter, she was a natural leader and nurturer. She married T.G. "Pot" Sanders  June 21, 1957, and together they had three children, Bo, Terry, and Davana. Her labor of love was Billie's Restaurant where she could be seen cooking, cleaning, waiting tables, and most notably manning the register from daylight to dark seven days a week. The only thing that got her attention more than her beloved cafe were her grandchildren. They were the stars in her eyes until the great-grandchildren were born and then her entire world revolved around the babies, as she dotingly called them. While loving a large family and managing a busy restaurant, Billie Faye also drove a school bus.  As busy as she was she always made time for Broaddus Bulldog basketball, her 'stories,' and a game of Pacman on the Super Nintendo.

She was a fierce woman – holding fast to her beliefs, defending those she loved, and always seeking to make her community a better place. For many years Billie Faye served as the mayor of Broaddus, Texas, and led the kitchen committee at First Baptist Church. She raised money for needy children, supported Broaddus schools, sang at the nursing home, and even in her final years coordinated charitable events for children and the elderly. Her hard work and generosity will forever be an example to her family and friends.

To some, her life may seem full, but those of us blessed by her love understand the imprint she leaves on our hearts will exceed the quantity of time she lived. Billie Faye Sanders-Kusenberger was preceded in death by her parents, W.J. "Durb" and Dovie Bryan; husband of 42 years, T.G. "Pot" Sanders; her brother, Burton Bryan; and sister, Patsy Abel.

She is survived by her loving children: Bo and Anita Sanders of Edom, Terry and Pam Sanders of Broaddus, and Davana Sanders of Broaddus; grandchildren: Micah and Jake Ware of Mont Belvieu, Bryan Sanders of Frisco, Cody and Jenny Sanders of Seattle, Washington, Jennifer and Chad Roach of Crosby, Dee Myers of Mont Belvieu, and Chelsie and Andrew Kramer of The Woodlands; great-grandchildren: Makenzie Sowell-Ware, Carsyn Roach, Jaxson Sowell, Weston Roach, Kobe Sanders, Kingston Sanders, Jamesen Ware, Wesley Myers, Jackson Sanders, Kayleigh Myers, and Conor Sanders; sisters and their husbands: Bonnie McGee, Sylvia and Jackie Harvard, Linda Evans, Marsha and Ronald Witcher, and Kathy Sutton; brother and his wife: Odis and Gail Bryan; and a host of nieces, nephews, family, and friends.
