Raymond Leonard Ameigh Obituary

Raymond Leonard Ameigh of Hubert, North Carolina, formerly of Prattsburgh, New York, passed away
on November 6, 2021 after a long battle with lung cancer. Raymond was born June 14, 1946 in Montour
Falls, NY. He graduated from Watkins Glen High School in 1964. Raymond married the love of his life
Patricia Jackson Hill on June 8, 1968. He graduated from Oswego University in 1968. Raymond’s first
job was as an industrial arts teacher at Mount Upton Central School. Raymond was then drafted and
served in the United States Army during the Vietnam Conflict. He was stationed in Bangkok, Thailand.
After leaving the military, Raymond went to work for the Bath Veterans Administration in Bath, New
York where he worked for 27 years. He then went on to work for the ARC of Steuben until his
retirement in 2005.
At the young age of 11, Raymond’s father passed away in a car accident which meant that Raymond had
to become the “man of the house”. He worked long hours as a hired-hand on farms while still going to
school and achieving good grades. Raymond had a knack for story-telling. His children and
grandchildren loved to hear stories about him growing up in and around Watkins Glen. Every time the
family gathered, they asked him to tell “about the time…”.
Raymond is survived by his wife Patricia, sister-in-law, Judith (Jim) Stage and five children; Raymond Jr.
(Ruth) Ameigh of Swansboro, NC, Jennifer Ameigh of Bath, NY, Jonathan Ameigh of Hubert, NC, April
(Russell) Ameigh-Derick of Wheeler, NY, and Sarah (Anton Medrek) Ameigh of Corning, NY. He is also
survived by his grandchildren; Alexander (Brianne) Lumia, Matthew (Alicia) Lumia, Madison Ameigh,
Jackson Derick, and Lucille Derick, Raymond Ameigh III, step-grandchildren Lillian and Iris Medrek and
his great grandchildren, Luna, Effrom, and Ophelia Lumia. Raymond also leaves behind his special
friend, Jimmy Dee of Bath, NY.
Raymond was predeceased by his parents, Oscar Ameigh and Lucille (Simpson) Ameigh, and brother-in-
law William Rice.
Raymond was greatly loved and will be whole-heartedly missed. A graveside burial and memorial
service will be held at the convenience of his family.
