John Thomas VanDrunen Obituary

John VanDrunen, age 79, of Stanton, passed away on Friday, November 5, 2021, in Grand Rapids at Spectrum Health Butterworth. John was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He retired from MC Van Kampen Trucking after 30+ years. John was the recipient of the Airman’s Medal and the Bronze Star during his service in the Vietnam War. He was a member of the Sheridan VFW. In his free time John enjoyed painting, especially landscapes. Most of all, John had a passion for God and sharing the Gospel wherever he went. He volunteered at Hospice of Michigan and Forgotten Man Ministries for several years. He was also known to share his faith at the cancer center monthly when he went for his infusion treatments. John was a member of the Evergreen Free Methodist church where he also served as a deacon for several years. He will be greatly missed by his friends and family. Surviving John is his wife, Sherry; daughters, Shelly (Don) Yaw of Sheridan; Shawn (Duane) Davis of Sand Lake; son, Scott (Cheryl) VanDrunen of Sheridan; grandchildren, Arian Davis of Sand Lake, Kaleb Davis of Sand Lake, Christian (Alexandra) Yaw of Crystal, Regan Yaw of Mt. Pleasant, Jorim Eldridge of Sheridan, Chad (Justina) Eldridge of Buchanan; Anthony Eldridge of Sheridan; great grandchildren, Vivien Eldridge, Vada Eldridge, Ellie Ringer; sisters-in-law, Sandi VanDrunen of Grand Rapids and Sally VanDrunen of Grand Rapids; and many nieces and nephews. John was preceded in death by his parents, Peter & Frances (Morris) VanDrunen; siblings, Bud (Lois) VanDrunen, Charles (Donna) VanDrunen, Eva Mae (Joe) Tabor, Ann (Richard) Balsitis, Glen (Pat) VanDrunen; Paul VanDrunen, and David VanDrunen. John’s life will be celebrated on Saturday, November 13th at the Evergreen Free Methodist Church (2825 Condensery Road, Sheridan) with a visitation from 10 to 11 AM and a memorial service at 11 AM. For those wanting to make a memorial donation in John’s memory the family suggests you direct them to either Hospice of Michigan or Forgotten Man Ministries. Envelopes will be available at the church.
