Ronald George Brewer Obituary

Ron was born in Winnipeg to George and Jessie Brewer on April 13, 1943. Ron completed his electrical Interprovincial license in Winnipeg, Manitoba.

He married Barbara (Harbottle) in May 1966 moving to Iowa to work assignment in USA. Daughter Carey Lee, was born in Winnipeg upon their return to Canada. Ron and Barbara moved to Qualicum Beach in 1979 where he was employed with MacMillan Bloedel in Port Alberni retiring in July 2002.

One of his biggest passions was hockey which he started at Bronx hockey rink in East Kildonan. Ron played with the Manitoba Junior Hockey League Winnipeg Braves and many recreational teams in Winnipeg and senior teams for many years including the Parksville Bald Eagles and the Parksville Golden Oldies Sports Association.

Nicknamed “Poe” by his grandson, Poe was devoted to his family in all their endeavors. He was regularly seen at his grandson’s hockey and baseball tournaments. Supporting his daughter Carey in her horse and dog competitions he enjoyed the many camping trips. Poe also assisted his wife Barbara, carrying her cello to many practices and performances!

Ron was predeceased by his parents, brother Murray and his twin nephews Christopher and Daryl. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Barbara, daughter Carey Lee (Tom), grandson Richard Biggs-Brewer (Natasha) and sister-in-law Lorna Brewer. Ron was a gentle and kind soul and leaves behind many friends, hockey buddies and extended family members. Always ready and willing to help anyone, he will be dearly missed by all!
