Marlow: Vernon Ray Stowers, 78, passed away Friday, October 29, 2021 in Duncan.


No services are planned at this time. Cremation and all arrangements have been entrusted to Callaway-Smith-Cobb Funeral and Cremation Services in Marlow.


Vernon was born Saturday, October 31, 1942 in Payson, OK to James Johnny "Pete" and Annie Bell Hopkins. He was a graduate of Cushion High School. Vernon had lived in the Marlow area for most of his life, and worked in the oil and gas industry as a driller until his retirement. He married the love of his life, Karen Sue Taber, January 10, 1967, and they celebrated 54 years of marriage before she preceded him in death just 4 months ago. Vernon enjoyed hunting, fishing, and going for rides. Most of all, he loved his family and the time he got to spend with them.


Survivors include 3 daughters, Sheila Stowers of Marlow, Diane Stowers of Lawton, and Chris Williams of Lawton, 2 sons, Johnny Ray Stowers of OK, and Dal Parley Stowers of Marlow, 8 grandchildren, Brent Blackburn, Brittany Davis, Demetri Welch, Jeffrey Stowers, Jeremy Stowers, Justin Scott, Jessica McCless, and Jeremy Stowers, 9 great-grandchildren, Raina Davis, Jess Stowers, Colt Stowers, Zoei Scott, Zaine Scott, Jaxen Scott, Bri McCless, Ryker Mills, and Aubri Sleniker 2 sisters, Joann Irwin of Velma, and Viola Robinson of Davis, and numerous nieces and nephews.


Vernon was preceded in death by wife, Karen Sue Taber, parents, sister, Doris Stowers, and brother-in-law, C.W. Robinson.
