Edward James Mercer Obituary

Edward James Mercer It is with great sadness that the family of Edward James Mercer announce his sudden passing on Wednesday, October 27, 2021 at the young age of 54. Ed will be lovingly remembered by his wife and best friend of 31 years, Meloney; his parents Elaine (Calvin) and Edward Mercer; his brothers Rodney, Paul (Angela) and Perry (Susan); mother-in-law Gladys; brothers and sisters-in-law, cousins, aunts, uncles, his God-children that he loved so much Brody, Blake, Avery, Easton and his special little buddy Price. Also a wide circle of family and friends. A special mention to Cathy (Darren), Robert and April who have always been there, and continue to be a constant support. Ed was predeceased by his brother Roger, his grandparents Cecil and Emily, Roland and Marion, father-in-law Karl Gosse Sr. sisters-in-law Jackie and Fay. Ed was born September 16, 1967 in Markland Cottage Hospital in Markland, NL. He spent his childhood in Broad Cove, NL, growing up with 4 other brothers who he absolutely adored. He met the love of his life, Meloney on April 12, 1989 and their love took off from there, as they were married just a few short months later on November 18, 1989. They had that kind of love that some people can only dream about, she was his Queen. That love has flourished over time, to become that amazing love story that we all know too well. He studied and graduated Automotive Technology at College of the North Atlantic in 1993, from there his love for cars only grew. In January 1990 Ed and Meloney left NL for the first time, moving to Ontario. After a few short trips between NL and Ontario, they finally made Ontario their home for good in 1993. After living in Mississauga and Etobicoke, Alliston became home. Various jobs and life lessons brought Ed to Honda in 2002. With his easy going disposition and his dry humor, Ed fit right in, and Honda became his second family. He was well liked, always ready to lend a hand and a fast learner. He loved anything “technology”, his eye for detail and love of photography afforded him a stint at shooting the amazing race cars sponsored by Honda. This got Ed published in local papers and was a shining moment for him. He was second to none with anything computers. This was valuable both at home and work. Again, his meticulous eye for detail and steady hand allowed whatever he touched to be perfection. Even in death, Ed is still touching lives and he will continue to live on with his last request, Ed had signed on to be an organ and tissue donor. With this selfless act Ed’s organs, tissues, eyes, skin and bones will help numerous people with 4 immediate people benefitting, 3 men and 1 woman. It’s rare to have a multiple tissue donor to aid in immediate relief and life-saving research, but that was Ed… A Hero to the end. Ed’s life would seem too short to many, but those who were lucky enough to have been a part of his life will understand that the quality of his existence far exceeds the quantity of time in which he was here. His infectious smile and gentle soul brought so much love and joy to all that knew him. A friend to everyone and always there to lend a hand. Until we meet again, Rest easy. A Celebration of Life will be held to remember an amazing man on Saturday, November 6, 2021 from 1-6 p.m. at the Royal Canadian Legion, 111 Dufferin St. S., Alliston. Covid regulations will be in effect, Proof of Double Vaccination, Masks must be worn at all times and there is a max of 80 people per room.
