Johnny L. Johnson Obituary

Johnny L. Johnson, 64, of Soldotna Alaska, passed away on October 24, 2021, after a valiant battle with Covid 19. No services are planned at this time. Johnny was born on August 18, 1957, to Reginald and Barbara Johnson in Arcata, Ca. His childhood was marred with tragedy starting with the death of his mother at age seven. However, Johnny built a productive life and overcame many obstacles. When Johnny was 11 years of age, he moved to Alaska with his father. He remained in Alaska until his death. Johnny lived in various areas including Ketchikan, Wasilla, Anchorage, Eagle River and the Kenai Peninsula. Johnny was a father, son, brother, friend, nephew, and excellent employee but the relationships he really loved and enjoyed the most were his grandchildren. A large group of children called Johnny “Papa” and he engaged with them, taught them and loved them without question. Johnny worked for Hilcorp Alaska as a mechanic and excelled at his employment where he was referred to as “Yosemite Sam”. He spent much of his shifts off of work, fixing things Cheri broke or destroyed. There was nothing Johnny couldn’t fix or repair and if he didn’t know how, he educated himself on the matter. Johnny had an extreme sense of responsibility and a dedication to any given thing. Johnny was personable, full of inner strength, compassion and he never met a stranger. He loved hockey, hunting, guns, target shooting, hiking, hanging out with his buddies and socializing but above all, he loved being a pilot and flying his airplane. Flying was a balm to Johnny’s soul especially since the death of his Son Cory 2016. Johnny’s grief over the loss of his son he carried with him until his death. Johnny is preceded in death by his parents, Reginald Johnson and Barbara Mason, brother, Robert Johnson and son, Cory James Johnson. Johnny is survived by his wife, Cheri Hibpshman; brother, Terry Johnson; sister, Suzy Turner; honorary mother, Helen Dodson; daughter, Rebecca Johnson; son, Casey Johnson; three stepchildren; 11 grandchildren and many other family members. Arrangements by Peninsula Memorial Chapel.
