Donald L. Grant Obituary

Donald Lewis Grant age 59 September 15, 1962 – October 22, 2021 Donald Lewis Grant, 59, passed away Friday, October 22, 2021, after a courage battle with Covid-19. Don was loved by many people; he is survived by his wife and best friend Tammy, together they raised three handsome sons; Thomas, age 27, Jacob, age 22, and Andrew, age 16. Don was a family man, he loved doing things with his boys, teaching them how to fish, how to hunt, how to drive, splitting and stacking wood. Don had a favorite child….. Myra, sorry boys. LOL Don was born to Bernice and Charlie Grant on September 15, 1962 in New Berlin, NY. He was one of seven children, with siblings Charlie, Mike, Steve, Sue and Marty. Don is also survived by his brother’s Charlie, Mike and wife Linda, Scott, Marty and wife Amy. By Pop (foster) and his mother-in-law Linda, his brother-in-law Rod and wife Tina and his Brother-in-law Rich. He is also survived by many extended family members and friends. He is pre-deceased by his loving parents, his brother Steve; sister, Sue; nephew, Shane Romanowski; sister-in-law Cindy and his father-in-law Jim. Don grew up in Pittsfield, New York. He graduated from New Berlin Central School, Class' of 1981. Don enjoyed keeping in contact with his former classmates. He retired from Schwan’s after 23 years of service. He also worked at Golden Artist in the filling department until the Covid pandemic hit. His last job was at Chase Nursing Home in the Maintenance Department. Don really enjoyed all the residents there. There are many things’ people didn’t know about Don. Don’s favorite color was red, his favorite holiday was fourth of July and his favorite flower was a peach rose. Don’s favorite soup was chicken and broccoli, his favorite meal was chicken and biscuits. He loved canning Spaghetti Sauce and shopping at Pier 1 and Hobby Lobby. He Enjoyed watching birds and scaring off the ones that Grandma Button said had evil eyes. Don loved music; he could play anything with strings. He loved singing while mowing the lawn, and dancing. He was known for his Potato Salad that took him 3 hours to make and he didn’t like any help when making the salad. Anyone that had once had his salad would request it for gatherings. Don loved his weekly coffee visits with Pop until the Covid pandemic hit. He was very political and opinionated; landing himself in Facebook jail several times. He loved camping, bon-fires with friends and family while enjoying a few adult-beverages and telling stories. Don’s favorite trip was the one he took this past April with Andrew to Texas, visiting the Alamo and the Texas Ranger Museum. Don loved his 1910 farmhouse and did many projects on the house. Most of the time he spent shaking his head at Tammy’s ideas. Don’s last project, with the help of Andrew and Jacob, was putting in a flagpole standing 30 ft tall. After the first windstorm the pole was trimmed down to 20 ft. The project was never fully finished as several baby bunnies made home in that flower bed. As a true gentleman, Don had a loving soul. He would give the shirt of his back for anyone, and he loved his family more than anything in the world. Don we are hoping you are raising some hell up there, making wonderful music with Pops again. You will be missed and loved, but never forgotten. Per Don’s request and wishes, there will be no viewing or calling hours or funeral. Don’s wishes were to be cremated and placed on the shelf next to his beloved Myra and Socks. There will be a celebration of life honoring Don at the Pittsfield Firehouse on Sunday November 21, 2021 from 12-4pm. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made out to his three sons, at Don’s home address, where they will decide on a dedication for their dad.
