Dudley D. Davis Havre De Grace, Maryland Obituary

Dudley D. Davis

Dudley Donald Davis was born October 27, 1934 in Lanham, Maryland to the late Donald Davis and Francis Annie Turner. He departed this life on October 26, 2021. He received his early childhood education in the Prince George’s County public school system and graduated from Fairmont Heights High School. He valued education and loved learning; continuing his formal education at Howard University, Bowie State College, Harford Community College, and Catonsville Community College, where he received an Associate’s Degree in 1990. Dudley served in the United States Army from 1957 through 1959. He was employed at Perry Point VA Medical Center and later at the Ballistics Research Laboratory on Aberdeen Proving Ground from where he retired. He was united in matrimony to Atyce M. Malone on November 27, 1982. This union extended his family to include three more children, adding to the four children from his previous marriage. Dudley committed his life to serving others. He was a member of Mount Calvary UAME Church and served on the Trustee Board. One of his favorite church activities was participating in Bible Study. Dudley was a member of the Jessie J. Shanks #137 Free & Accepted Masons (Prince Hall Affiliated (PHA)) where he served as a Treasurer and Worshipful Master. He was a member of the Boaz Chapter #21 Royal Arch Masons where he served several years as the High Priest. He was also Director of School of Instruction and was appointed to the office of Most Excellent Grand High Priest. He was a member of Evening Star Chapter #20 Order of Eastern Stars PHA and served several years as the Worthy Patron. Dudley was also a member of the Susquehanna Optimist Club and served as Lieutenant Governor. He was known as “Mr. Fix-it” around the church and in the neighborhood. He was also known for building wooden furniture, crafts, and toys for his children and grandchildren. Some of these treasures are 50 years old and are still cherished to this day. Along with enjoying his woodworking craft he was a gardener, and the neighbors enjoyed many strawberries from his patch! He enjoyed reading and always investigated how things worked. In addition to his parents, Dudley was preceded in death by his sister, Florence Greta Kiymaz; his brother, Milton Elmo Johnson; and his son, Jerald R. Loud, Jr. He leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife, Atyce M. Davis; sister, Veta Mae Jackson (Sumpter, SC); brother, James Walter Johnson Jr. (Bowie, Maryland); sister-in-law, Essie Curnell (Glenn Height, TX); his daughters, Denise Davis (Ellenwood, GA); C.
