McDuffie County

Ms. Betty “Doris” Davis Reese, 77, Thomson, Georgia, entered into eternal rest on October 27, 2021, at Augusta University Health, Augusta, Georgia.

Doris was born in McDuffie County on November 11, 1943, lived and grew up there.  Her career was in executive administrative work with the Bank of Thomson, The Wilson Company, Wheeler Law Firm and began working at McDuffie Bank and Trust when it originated until she retired from First Bank of Georgia and the Banking industry.  She loved flowers and working in the yard, volunteered at Manna and loved cooking.  Ms. Reese was an excellent seamstress, and in her earlier years, she made all her kids clothes.  Doris attended Thomson Church of God and loved helping at the Thomson Church of God and especially loved spending time with friends and family.

Doris was preceded in death by Roy Reese; her parents, Odell Davis and Inez Hobbs Davis; her brothers, Walter Davis “Junior”, Wendell Davis and Phil Davis; and her sisters, Barbara Shelton and Mary Francis Hyman.  Her survivors include her daughters, Marsha Perry (Stanley) and Tammy Herring (Barry); her sister, Phyllis Shedd (A.T.); her grandchildren, Jessica Strickland (Leo), Amber Poss and Taylor Evans; and her great grandchildren, Jason Rabun, Autumn Strickland and Aaron Strickland; and her nieces and nephews.

The family will be receiving family and friends at the home of Tammy and Barry Herring, 2881 Twin Pine Road, Thomson, Georgia.  A Visitation will be held on Saturday, October 30, 2021, from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. at Beggs Funeral Home, Thomson, Georgia. Her Funeral Service will be held on Sunday, October 31, 2021, at 3:00 p.m. at Beggs Funeral Home Chapel, 799 Cobbham Road, Thomson, Georgia with Rev. Bobby Farmer, officiating.  Pallbearers for the service are Mark Davis, Keith Davis, Vance Davis, Mike Shelton, Britt Shedd and Mike Callaway.  The interment will follow at Savannah Valley Memorial Gardens.  Please visit www.beggsfuneralhome.net to sign the family’s personal guestbook.
