Betty Jo Metcalf Obituary

Celebration of Life service for Betty Jo Metcalf, age 94, of Enid will be Monday, November 1, 2:00 p.m. at Crosspoint Church in Enid, Oklahoma with Rev Asher Griffin officiating. Interment will follow at Timberlake Cemetery, with arrangements made by Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home. Betty Jo Metcalf went to be with her Lord on October 27, 2021. Betty was born August 20, 1927, to father, George S. Jordan, and mother, Esther Lee Fleming. On Nov. 15, 1947, she married Emery L. Metcalf of Jet, Oklahoma. They entered sixty-seven wonderful years together of farming, ranching, and family life on the Metcalf home place. Betty and E.L.'s family life was always centered on their Christian faith. Betty demonstrated her commitment to the body of Christ by serving faithfully in the Jet United Methodist Church. Some of her areas of service included United Methodist Women, Pastor Parish Committee, Administrative Board, Education Department, Youth Leader, Sunday School teacher, choir member and creator of the Puppet Ministry. She was also one of the founders of the Wild Wood Chapel at Salt Plains Lake. In addition to her roles at the church, she was employed as the secretary of Jet School for several years, then later as a second grade teacher at Jet-Nash Elementary School in Nash. After moving to Enid in 2016, Betty enjoyed volunteering at Loaves and Fishes NWOK. Betty and E.L.’s home was built in 1907 on land staked in 1893. With creativity and a desire to cultivate a welcoming home, Betty worked tirelessly to ensure the historic farmhouse always felt inviting to family and friends. Her home was the destination of every major holiday for her family. She prepared food, games, and activities that nurtured relationships and cemented the family’s bond. Her graciousness as a hostess created an atmosphere with the perfect mix of fun and relaxation. Family always left expectantly waiting for the next gathering. Those times together rooted the family in rich, remarkable memories with one another and gratitude to their Heavenly Father. Betty had a unique connection with her grandchildren and great- grandchildren. She cared deeply to know them well and understand their interests. She graciously served the grandchildren who spent the summers working on the farm and she never tired of an opportunity to hear about their lives. Every new wife, husband, or baby brought into the "clan" was received with sincere openness and genuine love. She embroidered sets of tea towels and pillowcases for each household as well as quilts for every grandchild and great- grandchild. Betty was preceded in death by her husband, E.L. in 2015, parents, George and Esther Lee Jordan, a brother and his wife, James J. and Louella Jordan, and a sister, Linda Lee Jordan. She was also preceded in death by her sons-in-law, Layne Zander and Monty Rice. She is survived by daughter Diana Telg and husband Russell of Houston, TX; daughter, Tammie Rice of Oklahoma City, OK; son, Kim and wife Kimberly of Nash, OK; daughter, Terri Zander of Enid, OK; grandchildren, Blair and Dana Telg; Matt and Mary Anne Rice; Blake Telg; Tai and Matt Crabtree; Kaleb and Andrea Metcalf; Aaron and Brooke Rice; Max and Emma Metcalf; Isaac Rice; Addie Zander; Anna and Brent Ballagh; great-grandchildren, Chapel, Wright and Ellis Telg; Luke, Henry and Macy Rice; Samuel and Abigail Rice; Emily and Ellis Crabtree; Emery, Piper and Brooks Metcalf; and Everly and Zoey Metcalf.
