Jennifer Lynn Jezylo Obituary

SAGOLA, MI - Jennifer Lynn Myers-Jezylo, age 62, passed away Monday morning, October 25th, while being transported by ambulance to Duke LifePoint Hospital in Marquette to be treated for long-standing health problems. Jenny was born to Pat and Robert Myers on November 7, 1958 in Peoria, Illinois. Her early years were spent in Normal, IL, Cambridge, MA and Ibadan, Nigeria, West Africa. She moved with her family to Sands, MI in 1969, where she attended Gwinn H.S. She received a bachelor’s degree from Northern Michigan University in 1981. She attended Michigan State University for a degree in Veterinary Technology after which she entered the Veterinary Medicine program from which she received a DVM degree in 1988. She married Brad Carlton and had twin daughters who were born in her last year of graduate school. During the late nineties, Jenny was afflicted by various health problems. She moved to Marquette where she met, and married, Jay Jezylo in 1998. She also embarked on a new career, teaching courses at Bay College where she was selected Teacher of the Year, and subsequently in the Biology Department at NMU. She taught mainly courses in anatomy and physiology and medical microbiology which were required for nursing and pre-vet students. Additionally, she served as the advisor for these students, relationships she enjoyed immensely. She also revived the NMU Pre-Vet Club, whose members regularly volunteered to help with the vet check for the UP 200 sled dog race. Jenny enjoyed all aspects of life with Jay and her family. She worked with Jay to care for their pets, home and gardens. She was a dedicated runner for many years, and completed many marathons with her daughter Katherine. Jenny and Allison loved to bake together, pleasing all who were lucky enough to be close by. She was a skilled painter and created beautiful gifts for family and friends. Jenny had strong social and political views and shared them freely, often using stickers on her cars and office door. Her greatest joy, though, was spending time with her four grandchildren. Jenny is survived by her husband, Jay and her children, Allison Nicole (Jaymeson) Tucker of Minneapolis, and Katherine Elizabeth (Matt) Robinson of Indianapolis; her father, Robert (Carolyn) Myers of Gwinn; mother, Pat (with her partner Nancy Oatley) Myers of Watton; grandchildren, Haidyn and Brennan Tucker, Claire and Jane Robinson; brother, Joe Myers; step siblings, Steve Platt, Katherine and Brian Cooper; half-brother, Ron Longo; special niece, Brittney Doctor; and many other nieces and nephews. Jenny was preceded in death by her step-mother, Shari Myers. A memorial gathering of family and friends will take place Saturday, October 30 from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm at Fassbender Swanson Hansen Funeral and Cremation Services, Marquette. At 12:00 noon there will be a time for tributes and personal reflections. This will be an informal time for the sharing of memories, conversation, coffee and dessert. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to Jenny’s favorite causes: the Pre-Vet Club through the NMU Biology Department, Planned Parenthood of Michigan or UPAWS.
