Margaret Viola Oman Obituary

Margaret was born at Lady Minto Hospital, Minnedosa, MB to Allan & Viola Cook, from Clanwilliam MB, the second of nine children. She attended Grey School in Clanwilliam. As a child she loved to spend holidays at her Grandpa & Grandma’s house. Her favorite sports when growing up were playing baseball and skating. She helped her parents on the farm and remembered riding horseback to get the cows. She also helped her mother with the younger children. In 1943-44 she taught school at Glenallen School at Riding Mountain.
On November 4, 1944 Margaret married Harry Oman in the United Church in Clanwilliam, after which they lived on the Oman family farm until October, 1986 when they moved to Minnedosa. They enjoyed   60 wonderful years together and accomplished so many things, working hard but also having fun doing such things as curling, baseball and in later years golfing. They loved spending time socializing with family and friends and were active community members.  A very important part of Margaret’s life involved music, which included playing the organ for church, the Merry Hearts Choir, at the personal care home and giving music lessons to many children and adults in the community.
They had 3 daughters, Carolle, Sylvia & Beverley whom they loved dearly.  After Harry passed away in 2004, Margaret continued on with her activities on her own until she married for the second time to Leonard Saunders on October 18, 2008. They had 9½ happy years together prior to Len’s passing in March, 2017.  They lived at her home for most of that time until they moved together to the Minnedosa Personal Care Home.
Margaret leaves behind two daughters, Sylvia Musselwhite & her husband Dave, Bev Scharikow & her husband Gene, three grandchildren, Shannon Morris-Ballarin, her husband Mark & their children, Jonathan & Carollynn; Ryan Morris, his wife, Demi & their children, Harlowe & Hudson; Leanne Pukalo & her husband Adam; son-in-law Robert (Noella) Morris; and step-granddaughters Kristin & Karen and their families.  Also, brothers, Murray (Viv) Cook, Ralph (Sophie) Cook, sisters-in-law Ann Cook &
Jean Cook, brother-in-law Bernard Lane, and many nieces and nephews. Also surviving are Leonard’s children, Marlene, Doug, Keith & their families.
Margaret was pre-deceased by Harry & Leonard, her daughter, Carolle Morris, her siblings, Ellen (Johnny), Russell, Harold, Phyllis, Lloyd (Martha), Joyce (Les), sister-in-law Jean Cook, as well as Harry’s siblings, Mabel (Arnie), Selma (Joe), Herman (Clara), Viola (Ellis), Evelyn (Clark), Irene and baby sister, Joyce.

The family wishes to express thanks and gratitude to the wonderful care and attention provided to her by the staff at the Minnedosa Personal Care Home over the past 6 ½ years. It made her final years much easier.
