Joyce Geneva Wallen

Joyce Geneva Wallen was born on June 21, 1927, in Bell County, Kentucky. She was one of five children born from the union of Warner and Abbie Gail (Branson) Williams. Joyce attended Highland View School and graduated from Claiborne County High School. She would further her education by attending beauty school.<br><br> <br><br>On August 31, 1946, Joyce married Charlie Cledith Wallen and the couple would make their way north to Michigan in 1947. They would soon be blessed with two daughters of their own. Throughout the years, Joyce would wear many hats. She valued being a homemaker first and foremost and caring for the needs of her husband, children, and grandchildren. She also enjoyed their company and going places with them. <br><br> <br><br>Joyce would be employed in retail sales for some time and was also self-employed as the owner of Suzette’s Beauty Salon. Later she worked as a Nurse’s Aide at the Lutheran Home.<br><br> <br><br>Joyce became a member of Monroe Missionary Baptist Church in 1966. She stayed very active with many ministries from participating in the church choir, the Women’s Missionary Union (WMU), the JOY Choir, craft shows, and the SIS (Sister’s in Service) group.<br><br> <br><br>Joyce was an excellent seamstress. She used her skills in many capacities from making clothing and costumes for her girls to creating costumes for church programs. She also used her natural ability while employed by Monroe Bridal Aisle. She was a talented poet. <br><br> <br><br>Joyce Geneva Wallen, age 94, of Monroe passed away at home under the compassionate care of Elara Caring Hospice on October 26, 2021. Her passing was preceded by her parents; her husband: Charlie on May 23, 1998; two brothers: Omer Williams and Warner Williams Jr.; and two sisters: Edith Reece and Helen Skeen.<br><br> <br><br>Left to cherish her memory are her daughters: Dawn Wallen and Kimberlyn Fleszar; her son-in-law: Mark Fleszar, and her grandchildren: Andrew and Abigail Fleszar.<br><br> <br><br>Friends may gather from 2:00pm until 6:00pm on Sunday; October 31, 2021 at Merkle Funeral Service, South Monroe; 14567 South Dixie Highway, Monroe, Michigan 48161 (734) 241-7070. She will lie in state from 10:00am until a Celebration of Her Life at 11:00am on Monday; November 1, 2021 at Monroe Missionary Baptist Church, 14260 South Dixie Highway. Pastor Roy Southerland and Pastor Tim Iocoangeli will co-officiate. Procession will follow to Roselawn Memorial Park for burial.<br><br> <br><br>Memorials are suggested to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital. Joyce Geneva Wallen was born on June 21, 1927, in Bell County, Kentucky. She was one of five children born from the union of Warner and Abbie Gail (Branson) Williams. On August 31, 1946, Joyce married Charlie Cledith Wallen and the couple would make their way north to Michigan in 1947. They would soon be blessed with two daughters of their own.
