Rev. Lee A. Thomas Jr. Obituary

Rev. Lee A Thomas Jr. is a beloved and respected minister of the AME church. He was born April 6, 1959 to parents of Mary Elizabeth Thomas and Lee Andrew Thomas Sr. and step mother Sarah Myers Thomas. Known to family as “Pete” and to friends, co-workers, associates as Lee. Rev. Lee A. Thomas Jr. transitioned this life on October 25, 2021. He leaves behind two sisters Doris E. Jackson and Phylisha Thomas and brother in law Ronnie E. Jackson. His only nephew Jared Thomas Jackson, and longtime best friend Kumar A. Thomas, several aunts, several uncles, and plethora of cousins and dear friends. Lee attended public schools in Brooklyn and furthered his education at SUNY Albany. He performed a multitude of jobs while searching what he felt was beneficial, finally ending up at Interactive Data. This job gave him what he longed for extensive travel to different continents, and a purpose to wear a suit daily. Not many knew that Lee always wore a shirt and tie to school without parents’ influence. Mother limited daily suit wear because he would wear them so often, that it wore out before getting too small. Lee was just as adventurous and helpful to others as a child as when as in his adult life. He was always giving all he had and then some. There was no one, he wouldn’t help. He provided extensive support to church and community groups in USA and India. No matter the issue, Lee made himself available to anyone needing him day or night. He loved sports but his ultimate favorite was baseball. This he inherited from father and grandfather. Lee also loved animals especially his dogs. Lee was an avid reader and a connoisseur of politics. Humor was another great aspect of his personality. He would love to tease, tell stories, and his laugh was so infectious that you couldn’t help but join him. When he started preaching and went to seminary school, we teased him earnestly as family does. But he developed his craft, so he spoke to individuals instead of the crowd and transformed his message with elegance and grace. This is another calling he perfected. Friends and family were also awed and delighted by his culinary skills and the feasts he created during gatherings. He died after a long gallant fight against cancer that lasted over 18 years. Special thanks to Ky Hoang, Michelle Hines, and Teresa Johnson
