Rev. Manuel V. Peace was born on November 29, 1956, to Dora Jean Williams and Chester Jenkins in Durham, North Carolina. Rev. Peace’s mother later was married to the late Rev. Dr. DeVlaming A. Peace, Sr., the father who adopted him as a boy and who exemplified to him how to be a man, husband, father, pastor, and a minister of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Rev. Peace’s mother and father, Rev. Dr. D. A. Peace, Sr. were married for fifty-two years. Rev. Manuel V. Peace was an Associate Minister at Tabernacle Missionary Baptist Church (Tabernacle MBC) in Detroit, Michigan, where he and his wife were members for thirty-six years. By God’s grace, preaching, teaching, serving, and Christian faithfulness run through Rev. Peace’s family. He was the son of the late Rev. Dr. Devlaming A. and Dora J. Peace, the former pastor and first lady of the Zion Bethel United Church of Christ, Portsmouth, Virginia. Rev. Peace has two brothers and two sisters: Devlaming A. Peace, Jr.; Karone Blondin (Rev. Dr. Weaver Blondin); Christopher Peace (Donise Peace), a minister of music; and Rev. Dr. Devese Peace-Branch (Minister Jonathan Branch). He was also the grandson of the late Mr. Charlie and Rev. Mrs. Mazie Ford Williams, a powerful and pioneering woman of God, who served at True Way Holiness Church, Durham, North Carolina. Rev. Peace’s maternal grandparents were the late Mr. Mercy and Mrs. Nannie Peace Morgan who also faithfully served the Lord Jesus Christ. Rev. Peace was licensed in the Gospel Ministry on March 28, 1997, and ordained January 10, 1999, at Tabernacle MBC by the late Pastor Rev. Dr. Frederick G. Sampson, II. Rev. Peace has served Tabernacle MBC through worship leadership, preaching, teaching, and other ministerial assignments delegated by the office of the Pastor. He served faithfully under the pastoral leadership of Rev. Dr. Nathan Johnson, Senior Pastor. Through Pastor Johnson’s pastoral leadership, Rev. Peace continued to serve at Tabernacle MBC and other churches and parachurch organizations in metropolitan Detroit. In addition to local ministries, Rev. Peace was blessed with the opportunity to share in the Tabernacle MBC - Bahamas Fellowship as a member of the Tabernacle MBC delegation serving the Bahamian Family Islands. He ministered on the islands of Eleuthera, Abaco, Exuma, and the central island of New Providence in the capital city of Nassau. Rev. Peace was a member of the Tabernacle MBC Jail and Prison Ministry and volunteered through the chaplain offices of Wayne County Jail and Mound Road State Prison. He also served as a personal mentor of returning citizens. He was the former Chairman and a member of the Board of Directors of Helping Operations for People Empowerment (HOPE), a non-profit community organization which was launched from and affiliated with Tabernacle MBC. In addition, Rev. Peace formerly served at three Detroit area convalescent homes. He also formally served as a member of the Intercessory Prayer Ministry at Tabernacle MBC. One of Rev. Peace’s greatest joys was sharing the word of God with others through teaching. He served the Tabernacle MBC Christian Education Department as an instructor of Sunday School teachers. He was a teacher for the Genesis Sunday School Class. Through Tabernacle MBC Sunday Church School and Christian Education Department, and the Metropolitan Missionary Baptist District Congress of Christian Education, Rev. Peace taught courses on the Survey of the New Testament, Book of Ephesians, Book of John, Young Adult Life Mapping, Young Adults in Ministry, and How to Become a Strong Christian Black Man. Rev. Peace was a nationally certified teacher by the Congress of Christian Education Board of the National Baptist Convention, USA, Inc. Rev. Peace was appointed by Pastor Johnson as the ministry leader for the Young Adult Ministry. He was also a member of the Children Dedication Ministry Team whose responsibility is to lead the Child Dedication Service and teach young Christian parents about their vital role in leading their children to a personal faith in Jesus Christ. In addition, Rev. Peace was appointed by Pastor Nathan Johnson to Chair the Hope Worth Giving Stewardship Campaign. Rev. Peace formerly was the Tabernacle MBC representative to the Christian Coalition Council of Metropolitan Detroit Churches which is an ecumenical group dedicated to dialogue and work in cooperation among the Metropolitan Christian Community. Professionally, Rev. Peace was employed by General Motors in the Global Product Safety & Safety Organization. He was a Senior Manager and Technical Consultant in the Engineering Analysis Department. He was also a member of the General Motors University Relations Team for his alma mater, North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University. He began his career as a GM Scholar summer intern in 1981 and a full-time employee in 1983. Rev. Peace held a Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering from North Carolina A&T State University, 1983, and a Master of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering from Wayne State University, 1988. He received many scholarships and professional and community service awards over the years and was a member of the American Society of Automotive Engineers. Rev. Peace studied at Michigan Theological Seminary (now Moody Theological Seminary) and Ashland Theological Seminary where he pursued a Master of Divinity Degree. Rev. Peace loved and honored his mother, Dora J. Peace, who constantly referred to him as her “first born” and the one who shaped her life. Rev. Peace was forever grateful for his late father, Rev. Dr. D. A. Peace, Sr. In addition to his father and mother, his grandmother made a profound impact in shaping Rev. Peace as a child, youth, and young adult. His grandmother, Rev. Mazie Williams, the matriarch of the family tobacco farming business, demonstrated a remarkable level of faith and Christian stewardship. Rev. Peace loved and adored his wife, Annette Peace, through thirty-eight years of marriage. Annette’s gift of faith inspired Rev. Peace during the many aspects of his life through Christian growth, Spiritual formation, Christian education, ministry, and teaching. Annette was Rev. Peace’s confidant and best friend. Rev. Peace leaves to cherish his memory his wife of thirty-eight years, Annette L. Howard Peace; his mother Dora J. Peace; two children, Lauren V. Cobb (Attorney Michael A. Cobb Jr.) of Farmington Hills, MI, Attorney Emmanuel H. Peace (Alley Peace), of Champaign, IL; and two grandchildren, Micah L. Cobb and Michael L. Cobb; two brothers and two sisters, Devlaming A. Peace, Jr.; Karone Blondin (Rev. Dr. Weaver Blondin); Christopher Peace (Donise), and Rev. Dr. Devese Peace-Branch (Minister Jonathan Branch); adopted mother Joan Crawford, adopted sister Gregg Robinson (David Robinson), god daughter Brianna Graham (Kaymoi Graham) of Phoenix, Arizona; special friends Rev. Mark Downs and Alma Downs; and a host of nieces, nephews and loved ones. Rev.
