Johnny Koichi Greene, age 66, of Naperville, IL died peacefully in hospice Oct. 25, 2021 at Warren Barr Gold Coast in Chicago. Johnny was born in Tokyo, Japan to Sylvester "Buck" Greene and Kazuko Greene (née Kikusawa). Johnny immigrated with parents and sister Rosie to the US in 1956 and was raised in Romeoville, IL. He served proudly in the US Army between 1972 and 1975 with the Airborne Rangers Co C 1/29th Infantry. Afterwards he earned a BA in English from Lewis University. Johnny raised sons Andrew and Patrick as a dedicated, loving single father, instilling in them a strong familial bond and loyal brotherhood. Over the decades he managed a paper company, delivered the Daily Southtown across Chicagoland's south suburbs, and sold businesses computer hardware for TigerDirect. Johnny enjoyed a lifelong passion for writing fiction based on life experiences. Johnny retired in 2017 to pursue his writing and other interests such as in-home fitness equipment, stealth camping, and online exploration of international cuisine. He moved to Naperville to help his sister Rosie care for their mother. During his final year, he heroically battled glioblastoma, a debilitating brain cancer. Preceeded in death by parents Sylvester and Kazuko, older brother Robert (Linda). He is survived by sisters Rose Evans and Linda (Tino) Martinez, sons Andrew (Rachael Jensen) and Patrick (Kaitlyn Neumann), and mother of his children Carol L Greene (née Hagen). It was Johnny's wish that any memorial tributes be made in the form of charitable donations to St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital stjude.org/donate. Visitation will be held Sat Oct. 30th, 2021 at 9:30 AM with services at 11:45 AM, Beidelman-Kunsch Funeral Homes & Crematory 24021 Royal Worlington Dr., Naperville. Interment will be at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery on Mon Nov. 1, 2021 at 1 PM, 20953 W. Hoff Rd. Elwood, IL.
