Bryce Ephraim Batty Obituary

WATCH LIVE STREAM HERE (11:00 AM MDT)

Bryce Ephraim Batty, loving father, husband, son, brother, uncle, friend, and master gardener passed away unexpectedly at his home on Thursday, October 21, 2021. Bryce was born April 1, 1969 to Miles and Nyleen Peay Batty in Provo, Utah. Bryce was the fifth child of eight. He lived first in Orem and then Lindon until 1997 when he married. He lived a short time in Provo before making American Fork his home, up until the time of his death.

In Bryce's younger years, he often spent day and night with his grandfather, James Delton Batty; where he learned chants and lil tunes that he carried through his life. He helped Grant Speed haul hay, who graciously made and gifted the very bolo tie that Bryce is wearing as he is laid to rest.

Anyone who knew Bryce as a child knows he wanted nothing more than to be tall and play basketball or be a professional cowboy. He also wanted his name to be "Cole" as he felt it was more of a cowboy name. Those feelings carried into his adult life. He filled those desires with endless horseback riding and watching the Utah Jazz. He even used the name "Cole" for reservations and to hold his place at events and his infamous drink cards at gas stations. In Bryce's spare time aside from horses, he always had a love for gardening.  We know if he had the land, he would have been a full-time farmer growing abundant crops of all kinds. Bryce's favorite flowers were Zinnias and Four o'clocks. He loved to have a plethora of flowers to attract hummingbirds. One of his favorite pastimes was simply sitting in the yard with a Coke and watching the hummingbirds.

Bryce graduated from Pleasant Grove High School in 1988 and later got an associates degree at UVCC, now Utah Valley University, in collision repair. Bryce had a knack for turning wrenches and making the impossible run. He rebuilt and painted his 1975 Ford High Boy and later sold it to help contribute to the down payment of the home his children were raised in. He constantly tinkered on his Willy's pickup. He later bought a bright red thunderbird. It seems his vehicles had a color theme.

Bryce married the mother of his two beautiful children on January 17, 1997, in the Mt. Timpanogos temple. They later divorced. Bryce's proudest title was Dad. His daughter, Breanna (22), spent so much time with him in his trucks, the scale girls knew her by name. His son, Elijah (17), quickly gained the passengers seat when he was born and also became loved by the scale girls as he charmed them. We suspect the children were much like the "puppy" to get the attention from the ladies. Bryce weaved his love for the outdoors into both his children. They loved fishing, camping, and horseback riding with him. Bryce's most happy times were those spent with his children.

Bryce married Dusten Marie Nielson on April 1, 2020. They grew much more than love as they gardened together and adventured out into the mountains. Dusten and Bryce spent endless hours on horseback, in the garden, and then in the kitchen canning and preserving all the goods they harvested. Bryce shared his harvest with friend or foe alike. Dusten and Bryce had a sharing table that many benefited from.

Independence Day was, hands down, his favorite holiday.  It was no secret, as he decorated all out for the month and spent tons of money on fireworks. Along with the 4th of July came two of Bryce's favorite foods, watermelon and fresh tomatoes.

Bryce devoted endless hours of service through caring for his "widow ladies" and many loved elderly individuals that played a role in his life. He shared produce with them, did tasks, and simply hung out on summer evenings chatting. Boy, could the man chat!

Bryce made a career of driving truck. There wasn't a truck he couldn't handle. Everyone knew he could blind side a trailer or pup and land it right where it needed to be. He thoroughly enjoyed hauling heavy equipment. He worked for many great companies. He started his trucking career with Niels Fugal and Sons. He was with ESP Excavation for 16 years. He did a stint for Construction Truck and Trailer, running heavy haul out of town, and later worked for Mitchell X and KNA Trucking. Bryce was working for BD Bush at the time of his death and had been there 9 years. Bryce gave his all and loyalty in his work.

Music spoke to Bryce. He would tap his foot along to John Denver, Don Williams, Chris Loudex, Johnny Cash and all the good ol' boys; along with Crystal Gayle, his "mistress" and Tanya Tucker, his "crush". He attended many concerts and was even fortunate enough to see Johnny Cash here in Utah.

The fall colors were always a top priority taking Canyon drives, visiting Wallsburg, then going into Heber for shakes and good grub at Granny's, Dairy Keen, or The Hub.

Bryce is survived by his wife, Dusten Marie Batty; daughter, Breanna Batty; son, Elijah Batty; his children's mother; stepsons, Tallon Morrey and Shayne Morrey. His parents, Miles and Nyleen Batty; siblings, Lynn (Elizabeth) Batty, Debbie Hall, Phil (Elizabeth) Batty, Julee (David) Sharik, Amy (Brad) Bush, Janene (Bryon) Paas, Holly (Joshua) Ellis. Many nieces and nephews. Countless friends and associates. As well as his other "son"...his horse, Dandy.

Funeral services will be held Friday, October 29, 2021 at 11:00 am in the American Fork 27th Ward Chapel, 165 North 350 West, American Fork, Utah where family and friends may attend a viewing from 9:00 – 10:45 am prior to the services.  Interment will be in the Lindon City Cemetery.  Condolences may be sent to the family at www.olpinmortuary.com.
