Dennis Boyce Butler Pleasant Grove, Utah Obituary

Dennis Boyce Butler

Dennis Boyce Butler 85 passed away on October 22, 2021 after a valiant fight with cancer.
Dennis was born on June 28, 1936 to Grace Andrus and Rulon Boyce Butler. He grew up on the family farm in Hill Spring Alberta Canada alongside his 5 siblings. His parents taught him the value of hard work. He lived his life until the very end with those values.

After graduation he was accepted into Brigham Young University and after a year there, he left on an LDS mission to Paris, France. When he returned, he met and married Vernene Passmore in the Salt Lake Temple on August 24, 1961. While finishing up school he had many jobs. Teaching night classes at the Utah state prison was a favorite. He graduated with a masters in Political Science. From there he was offered a job in foreign affairs with the Canadian government that allowed him and Vernene to travel to many foreign lands including Germany, Indonesia and Guyana. While in Indonesia he played a key role in the dedication of the land for preaching of the gospel for the LDS church. He worked closely with church leaders including Elders Ezra Taft Benson and Bruce R Mckonkie. On October 26 1969 in Puncak on a hill looking down on the fields and villages the clouds parted and Elder Benson dedicated the land. Dennis knew this was one of the many reasons he was brought there. After leaving Indonesia they went to Guyana and from there took a post at the Canadian consulate in San Francisco which put them closer to Vernenes family. After 4 years he decided to leave the government and try his hand at Real Estate. While taking real estate classes he rototilled yards to support his wife and 3 kids, Brad, Jeff and Sarinah. Eventually he got his broker’s license and after many long hours and hard work he started a very successful business, Homtel. In 1988 he decided to “retire” and move to Lindon, Utah where he lived for many years dabbling in rental properties and storage units to keep himself busy. Dennis and Vernene decided it was time to go find warmer weather. They moved to St George and then ending up in Hurricane.

Dennis was always helping his family, neighbors, ward members and about anyone who asked. He also was a temple worker at Mt Timpanogas for many years and continued to drive from hurricane once a week to be able to do that until it just got too much. During that time, he moved Vernene into a care center and his life consisted of going to see her and making her life comfortable. When he had some medical issues and ended up in the hospital, we brought him and Vernene back home to Lindon.

Dennis was loved by so many and will truly be missed by all who knew him.
Survivors include his wife Vernene. Siblings Rula Smith, Norman (Arlene) Butler, Brenda (Max) Lunt, and Heather (Wayne) Allred. His in laws Stephen (Elizabeth) Passmore and Lawna Dewsnup. His son Jeff Butler and daughter Sarinah Thompson and daughter-in-law Rosana Butler. His grandkids Jesse, Becky, Nick, Logan (Sherry) and Courtney,Jake(Kayla) Graycee(Kade) and Kaydi. His great grand kids, Olivia, Jenna and Alexander.
He is predeceased by his parents, his son Brad, a granddaughter Jennifer and his sister Ardyth and Brother-in-law Floyd Smith.

Dens wishes are to be cremated. A graveside service will be held at a later date for family and close friends.

Our Family would like to thank the many friends, neighbors and ward members in Hurricane and Lindon for the continuous love and kindness they have shown our parents throughout the years. It will always be remembered.
85 YEARS
31,025 days
744,600 hours
44,676,000 minutes
3 amazing children
11 beautiful grandchildren
3 sweet great grandchildren
1 Blessed Life
