Steven Kain Obituary

Steven Michael Kain, 80, of Ellettsville, passed from this earthly life during the early morning hours on Sunday, October 24, 2021, at the Morristown Manor. He was born on March 9, 1941, in Morgantown, Indiana to the late Maurice Kain and Mildred (Bond) Kain. He was a proud and active member of the Martinsville High School Class of 1959. He greatly enjoyed gatherings with his classmates. He earned his bachelor’s degree from Wabash College and later his master’s degree from Indiana University. Steven pursued his career and passion for education shaping and molding the minds of the youth in several school districts. He worked as a Latin Teacher for Crawfordsville Schools, a Principal for Lebanon Schools, Superintendent of Logansport Schools and then Superintendent of Richland Bean Blossom Schools. Additionally, he served as Cass County Commissioner. On August 29, 1959, he married his high school sweetheart and soulmate, Sharon Platt, at the First United Methodist Church. They had enjoyed nearly 60 years of marriage when she passed on January 13, 2019. Steven enjoyed watching sports and, as an Indiana University Alumni, naturally enjoyed cheering on the Hoosiers. He also was an Indianapolis Colts fan. He did enjoy smoking a nice cigar on special occasions as well. Additionally, he and his late wife greatly enjoyed traveling together. He will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by his loving family and friends including his daughter, Barbara Kain (partner, Carol Vaughn) of Greenfield; sons, David (wife, Ruth) Kain of Slidell, LA and Bryan (wife, Jennifer) Kain of Summerville, SC; six grandchildren, Alex, Jordan, Richard, Kati, Andrew, and Samantha Kain and two great grandchildren, Vivian and Malachi Worthington. He was preceded in death by his parents, Maurice and Mildred Kain; wife, Sharon Kain; and brother, Richard Kain. Family and friends are invited to visit on Thursday, October 28, 2021, from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm in the chapel at Neal & Summers Funeral and Cremation Center in Martinsville. A funeral celebrating the life of Mr. Kain will begin at 10:00 am on Friday, October 29, 2021, with Rev. Roxie McNelly officiating. There will be an hour of visiting prior to the service. Mr. Kain will be cremated, and he will be laid to rest along with his late wife, Sharon, in Mahalasville Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that contributions be made in Mr. Kain’s memory to the Morgan County History Museum or to the Mahalasville Cemetery Fund.
