Alvis Lavender Sr. Obituary

Alvis Lavender Sr. entered into glory, surrounded by his loved ones on October 21, 2021 in Whiteriver, AZ.  He was born on March 22, 1954 to Daniel lavender Sr. and Dorothy Johnson in Whiteriver, AZ.

“Alvis worked as a sawyer, he had to have a keen eye as he’s the first to cut into a log and determines it’s grade.  With his hard work and dedication FATCO was the bread and butter of the tribe for many years.  Now it’s WMATCO and the guys and gals are still working and putting in days work to help the tribe.  Alvis raised his family on the sawmill dollar, but what a tremendous testament he and Carma have of looking to the Lord in good and challenging days, their home is filled with the spirit of Christ and his hard hat hangs with pride as the sun shines in the hat piece worn by a hard working man.”

-Quoted from Chairwoman Gwendena Lee-Gatewood, White Mountain Apache Tribe.

Alvis is survived by his wife:  Carmalinda Lavender; children:  Alvis Lavender Jr., Travis Lavender, Daniel Lavender. Avis Garcia, Aloyse Declay, Kravis Lavender, Millie Lavender and Frances Guy.  He was preceded in death by his parents Daniel and Dorothy Lavender; brothers:  Nathiel Lavender, Hank Lavender, Alfonso Lavender and Daniel Lavender Jr. and sister:  MaryAnn Cantu.

Services will be held on Wednesday, October 27, 2021 from 9am to 12pm at the Whiteriver Assembly of God Church in Whiteriver, AZ.  Interment will be at the Cooley Mountain Cemetery, Hondah, AZ. Donations can be made through FBPay on Carma Lavender’s page.
