Mattie Lee Stevenson was born July 1, 1941, in Darlington County, South Carolina, a daughter of Johnny Wendell Johnson and Hallie Blakney Johnson. She transitioned from this earthly realm to her heavenly home on October 25, 2021.
She was educated the public schools of Darlington County. Mrs. Stevenson was a self-employed housekeeper who loved helping others. She was a life-long member of Second Baptist Missionary Church, where she served faithfully in many capacities.
Mattie, known to many of her family and friends as “Mattie Lee”, was a strong woman who had nothing but love and grace to give to others around her. She shined bright with a heart to match. She lived with a warrior spirit, and it never failed her. May those who genuinely loved her, be reminded that she is now at peace with her Father above. She will truly be missed!
Mattie was preceded in death by both parents, Hallie and Johnnie Johnson; her daughter, Tina Stevenson; her sister Johnnie Mae Johnson; her brothers, Buck Johnson, Ernest Lee Johnson, and Willie B. Johnson; and her nephew, “Head” Johnson.
Surviving to cherish the memory and continue the legacy of Mattie Lee Stevenson include her sons, Alphonso Johnson, Rondell Johnson, Heyward Stevenson, Darwin Stevenson, and Wendell Johnson; her sisters, Sylvia Johnson, Dorothy Johnson, and Yvonne Johnson; seventeen grandchildren; and a host of great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other close relatives, and very dear friends.
