Evetta Ekins loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother passed away peacefully October 21, 2021, surrounded by family.  Evetta was born January 11, 1928, in Vancouver, Washington but soon after moved to southern California.  She loved the beach, biking and being with friends and her cousins as a youth.  She attended Cerritos college where she obtained her Cosmetology license, but World War II interfered with her plans.  Her husband joined the Navy and she moved to Coronado Island in San Diego, CA.  where she worked as a “Rosie the Riveter” repairing fighter planes that had returned from combat. One of her close schoolmates introduced her to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and she and her family were baptized.  In 1972 her son Jerry, and daughter Sande moved to Provo, Utah to attend Brigham Young University and Evetta soon followed with her son John. 

Evetta started her life over when she moved to Utah with enough money for one month and thankfully found a job at the Brigham Young University press.  At that time printing was a male dominated industry but she was smart and strong and worked her way up from the pre-press room to the front office where she retired.  She met the love of her life Stanford “Tim” Ekins in 1973 through a mutual friend and they were married. Evetta became a farmer’s wife.  They lived at the Southfork Ranger station when they married and moved down into the valley on the farm in Pleasant Grove, Utah after a few years.  She was a member of the Manila 1st Ward, full of farmers and friends.  For almost 50 years she attended monthly luncheons with “the club”, a group of farmers’ wives and dear friends.  Her last lunch was just one week before her passing with the remaining 4 members. 

Evetta loved the church, hosting friends, musicals, and travel but most of all she loved her family.  Her life was defined by her endless service, sacrifice, and love of her family.  Her Grandkids and great grandkids were her love and joy and she made no apologies for spoiling them with Grape soda, cookies, candies, crepes aka “roll-ups” and more.  She loved sleepovers at grandma’s house, going to the pool and of course going to Disneyland.  She loved it when they could visit and play dominos where she suspiciously won an uncanny number of times.  She lived her life full of service to the church where she served in many callings but most importantly was simply a friend to all who would take time to visit, make a meal or share a smile.  She and her husband loved to attend the temple and her home was always filled with love.

At the time of her passing she had 22 grandchildren and 36 great-grandchildren.   She is preceded in death by her loving husband Stanford “Tim” Ekins, her parents, siblings, and entire generation of extended family along with her son Jerry Morales, daughter Sande Morales Montano, son-in-law Cesar Montano and Stepson Duane “Dee” Ekins.  She is survived by her son John (Jeanette) Ekins, and stepchildren Cheryl (Jacob) Boone, Norman Ekins, and Dallin Ekins.  Her heart and home were in Utah valley and it is there where she will be laid to rest next to her loving husband in the Provo Cemetery.

Funeral services will be held Monday, October 25, 2021 at 11:00 am in the Manila Creek Eighth Ward Chapel, 3850 West Box Elder Drive, Cedar Hills where family and friends may attend at viewing from 9:00 – 10:45 am prior to the services.  Interment will be in the Provo City Cemetery.  Condolences may be sent to the family at www.olpinmortuary.com.
