Howard Parker

Howard Parker, age 70, of Harrisburg died in Holy Spirit Hospital on Sunday evening, October 17th. He was predeceased by his parents Howard and Bernadette, and his twin brother Richard. He leaves behind his wife of 46 years Marcia, his brother Bob and his sister Marianne. Howard was greeted at the Rainbow Bridge by a number of beloved cats, especially Diablo, Blowfish and Cinda. Howard was very active in the community. He spent several years in the Pennsylvania Jaycees, starting out with the local Steelton chapter, moving through several regional and state offices to serve as President of the Pennsylvania Jaycees 1988 – 1989. He devoted time and effort to the local neighborhood group Riverside United Neighbors and to the Dauphin County Democrats. But his great love was history. His home away from home was the Historical Society of Dauphin County and the Harris Mansion. He spent countless hours researching the 1839 Whig Convention in Harrisburg and Thomas Elder, an early mover and shaker in Harrisburg. There will be a Celebration of Life on Tuesday November 9th at the John Harris – Simon Cameron Mansion on South Front Street, Harrisburg PA from the hours of 5 P.M. till 7 P.M. Donations can be made in Howard’s name to the Historical Society of Dauphin County or to the Dauphin County Democrats.
