Theodore Roosevelt Lilly Jr. Obituary

Theodore Roosevelt Lilly Jr., a local icon, in the town of Oakboro entered eternal rest Tuesday, October 19, 2021. “Ted”, as he was affectionately known was born June 10, 1955, in Stanly County, North Carolina. His parents, Theodore Sr. and Thelma Ruth Clark Lilly, preceded him in death. The community of Oakboro is heartbroken after Ted’s unexpected death. He was loved and revered by all who knew him. Ted was friendly, outgoing, and never met a stranger. He touched everyone with love and kindness. Gone from among us, but forever in our hearts. May God hold Ted in the palm of His Hand.

He was educated in the Stanly County public schools where he attended Greenwood Center, Albemarle, North Carolina. He received his certificate of completion from the Academy for Special Challenged, Goldsboro, North Carolina.  He was an Ambassador for the Township.

Ted began his Christian journey at an early age and was a life-long member of Saint Matthews United Church of God, Oakboro. He was a faithful member who enjoyed spirited services, Sunday School, and other church programs. In his leisure, he enjoyed daily walks and visits with friends in the community. He loved listening to the radio and coloring in his favorite coloring book. He was fascinated with the mechanical workings of watches and clocks. But most of all he loved family and relished the many family gatherings. We would be remiss if not mentioned that Ted’s favorite article of clothing was his ‘yellow vest’. He could be seen wearing it daily with his favorite hat. He enjoyed watching his favorite NFL team, The Carolina Panthers.

He has finished his course and has joined his mother, father, brothers; Steve McCormick and Aaron Richardson, and sister, Johnsie Mae Lilly in a place where there is no pain or suffering. He has been welcomed in Our Father’s House where every day is like Sunday.

Ted will be missed and remembered always in the hearts of his sisters: Shelby Ashcraft, Vivian L. Little, both of Oakboro, Wanda McLendon, Albemarle, and Lanetta Pritchard, Charlotte, North Carolina; brothers: Dorsey “T.T.” Lilly, Oakboro, Minister Tym (Angela) Scott and Rick Scott, both of Albemarle; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and the Oakboro community.
