Alicia Chavez Obituary

Alicia Chavez 86 years

Viewing will be in the chapel at Terpening and Son Mortuary on Wednesday from 1-6 pm. A Rosary will be held at 9:30am Thursday October 28, followed by funeral mass at 10:00am at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church. Burial will follow at Woodbine Cemetery.

Alicia Chavez reunited with her husband in Heaven on the 21st of October, 2021. Alicia passed away peacefully at Eastern New Mexico Medical Center, surrounded by loved ones.

Alicia or Calicha, as she was know to her family and friends, was born on October 23, 1934 in Janos, Chihuahua Mexico to Emilio Rodriguez and Juana Sandoval. On October 1st, 1951 Alicia married the love of her life, Alfredo Chavez and the adventure began. Together they raised eight children, claimed one as their own, and 19 grandchildren.

Alicia arrived in Artesia in 2003, after having ties to the surrounding ranches through her husband who worked his whole life as a ranchhand. She built a life for herself in Artesia, being a devout Catholic and joining Our Lady of Grace Church and "adopting" grandchildren at every party she attended.

Alicia lived a long, joy-filled life and was the life of the party. Often leaving her dancing partners exhausted long before she even broke a sweat. Her free spirit and humor will be missed.

Alicia is preceded in death by her husband, Alfredo Chavez, her parents, four siblings, her grandchildren, Lizeth Santiesteban Chavez and Jaime Chavez; and a great grandchild, Jacob Lopez Santiesteban.

She is survived by her sister, Rita Garcia; her son Alfredo Chavez; her son Javier Chavez and his wife Gloria; her daughter Rosa Chavez and her husband Jimmy; her daughter Lupe Santiesteban and her husband Jorge, her son Rene Chavez and his wife Karla; her son Manuel Chavez and his wife Lisa; her daughter Veronica Zubia and her husband Luis; her daughter Karen and her husband Erik; her "adopted" daughter Marina Ruiz; 17 grandchildren - Celmira, Fernando, Magali, Ramon, Rene, Adalberto, Jorge, Claudia, Alonso, Selena, Miguel, Karime, Luis, Miranda, Manuel, Daniel, and Adrian; 20 great grandchildren, and one great great grandchild, Lillie.

Pallbearers will be: Fernando Chavez, Rene Chavez Jr, Miguel Chavez Jr, Jorge Santiesteban Jr, Luis Zubia Jr, Erik Rangel, Gustavo Navarette, Cesar Sepulveda.
