Florence Louise Hogarty
Florence Louise (Brogan) Hogarty was born in Butte Montana and raised in Philipsburg Montana among her extended family of many aunts, uncles, and cousins with whom she kept in touch her entire life. After her fathers death in 1947 she and her mother and sister relocated to Eureka CA to be closer to her mother’s sister Florence Calanchini. She attended nursing school in Spokane WA and returned to Eureka to begin her nursing career. During this time she met her husband, William R Hogarty and they married in 1960. They lived in Eureka for a time until Bill’s career took them to the Seattle WA area in 1971. She lived in Edmonds WA and raised their two children before returning to nursing, spending the remainder of her career caring for the elderly. Following Bill’s death in 1989, Florence returned home to Eureka, and busied herself with her care of the elderly at local nursing homes, She retired from nursing at 75 and remained very active at St. Bernard’s Church caring for the flowers, the linens and many other volunteer duties. She also volunteered in the gift shop at the local hospital. In 2012 Florence moved to Bend Oregon to be closer to her daughter and her family, where she continued her volunteer work at St. Charles hospital and performed various duties at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Bend, until she could no longer manage those activities. Florence loved to read, garden, do puzzles, spend time with family and friends, and most of all, volunteer her time and talents to those in need. She was a student of the Bible and the Catholic Faith, a member of the Secular Franciscans and enjoyed learning from and sharing knowledge with others who also shared this passion. Florence passed peacefully on October 16, 2021. She was preceded in death by her parents Rose (Winninghoff) Brogan and Thomas N Brogan, her husband William, son Thomas, her sister Patricia, and her nephew Joseph. She is survived by her daughter Mary Heller, son in law Daniel, grandchildren, Brad, Brian and Brittany, great grand daughter Hailey, brother in law Don Cloney and niece and nephew Janice Johns and Patrick Cloney. Recitation of the Rosary will be held Saturday, October 30, at 10:00 AM in the St. Francis Catholic Church at 2450 NE 27th Street, Bend OR 90701 and the Catholic Mass will start at 10:30.
