Joy Burr Obituary

Joy L. Sorensen Burr (Wonape Aame "All Dancing) left this earthly home peacefully on Wednesday, October 20, 2021, having entered it loudly on June 5, 1941. She wouldn’t want us to tell you her age – so you do the math. She was perpetually 29 years old. She never liked her middle name, so we won’t tell you that either.

Joy was born to Chris and Marguerite (Lynch) Sorensen in Halliday, ND, the fourth of five children. She spent most of her formative years in North Dakota, graduating from Halliday High School. Joy was an excellent seamstress, sewing all of her own school clothes in high school. In later years, she crafted the most beautiful star quilts that she also hand-quilted. Many will remember her for the delectable Christmas candies she made each year to share with family and friends. Joy was deeply involved in studying genealogy and worked tirelessly to help compile her Lynch family history into an anthology for all her family members to enjoy.

She and her husband, Evan Burr, Jr. enjoyed 48 years of married life, always inviting many into their welcoming home. Above all of her acknowledged accomplishments in life, her greatest pride lay in her children, Terry (Angie) Burr, Gerry (Debbie) Burr, Renee (Rick) Little Swallow, Paul “Sam” (Robin) Burr, Tammy Burr, Kris (Pete Garcia) Burr and Bobby (Rikki Gillette) Burr.

Joy absolutely beamed when she spoke of her grandchildren, Amber Burr, Krystal, Dillon, Colton and Tristen Burr, Tyrel, Chancy, David, Mylee and Halley Wayne Little Swallow, Zack and Samantha Burr, Shea and Keana Burr and Teagan Bennett, Nathaniel, Tyler and Peter “Turtle” Garcia, Samuel, Kylah and Leah Burr and her nine great-grandchildren.

She is also survived by her husband, Evan; and her brothers, Don and Daryl Sorensen.

Joy was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Wayne Sorensen; her sister, Faye Frafford; and grandchildren, Terry Burr, Jr. and Brandee Jean White Owl.

Services will be held at 10:00 AM CDT on Sunday, October 24, 2021 at Twin Buttes Memorial Hall, Twin Buttes with Pastor Kevin Finley officiating. Burial will follow at the Burr Family Cemetery, Twin Buttes.

The wake will begin at 5:00 PM CDT on Saturday, October 23, 2021 at Twin Buttes Memorial Hall.
