Paul Mitacek

Wednesday, October 20, 2021 at the age of 89 after a painful struggle with Dementia. He is pre-deceased by his parents, Paul and Mary Ann Mitacek. Paul graduated with a B.A from Oberlin College. After serving in the Army during the Korean War he continued his studies at Penn State where he earned his PhD in Physical Chemistry. His career started doing research at Argonne National Laboratories in Chicago where he met his wife, Barbara. Together they moved to Rochester in 1967 where Paul taught Physical Chemistry at St. John Fisher College and chaired the Chemistry department. The last 15 years before his retirement he worked at Eastman Kodak as a Research Associate. Paul was an avid tennis player and sports enthusiast. The Bills were his obsession. He had a lifelong interest in the Arts and loved theatre wherever he could find it. He enjoyed traveling with his wife all over the world. They celebrated their retirement with a trip around the world. In his later years Paul pursued his interest in studying Philosophy and was an active participant in many Philosophical groups. Paul is survived by his loving wife, Barbara, his favorite niece and nephew and his family in Germany. No prior calling hours. A Graveside Service will be held Monday, October 25, 2021, 1:30PM at White Haven Memorial Park, 210 Marsh Road. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St John Fisher College, Dr. Paul Mitacek Scholarship Fund, 3690 East Ave, Rochester, NY 14618.
