James "Jim" N. Bennett Obituary

James “Jim” N. Bennett, 85, of Greenwood, MO, died at 3:30 A.M., Thursday, October 21, 2021 in Parsons, KS with his daughter by his side. Jim was born October 6, 1936 in Peace Valley, MO, son of Wayne D. and Geneva (Nunn) Bennett. His family moved to Kansas City, MO in his early childhood and he grew up and attended school there. He graduated from the Southeast High School and began working as a lithographer. He worked at several printing companies in the Kansas City area before he joined and later retired from Children International. Jim was married to Donna Ziegler in 1958 in Lee’s Summit, MO. They later divorced. He married Barbara (Shell) Buchanan in 1980. She preceded him in death in 2008. Jim was a founding member of the United Rodeo Association. In his early rodeo career he was a 4 event cowboy, competing in bull riding, bareback riding, steer wrestling and calf roping. Later in his career he gave up the roughstock events and started team roping. Jim and Barbara also trained border collies and provided sheep for mutton busting events all over the midwest. During his employment at Children’s International he accompanied a group of employees on a humanitarian trip to Ecuador. Upon his retirement, an elementary school in Ecuador was named after him in appreciation of his contributions. Survivors include his daughter and son in-law: Kendra and Rick McKinzie, Oswego, KS; three grandchildren: Lucas Brecheisen, Kansas City, MO, Kyle (Danielle) McKinzie, Oswego, KS and Kasey (Laken) McKinzie, Oswego, KS; three great-granddaughters; two brothers: Rodney Bennett, Lee’s Summit, MO, Alan Bennett, Lee’s Summit, MO. He was preceded in death by one daughter: Denise Bennett; one brother: Johnny Bennett and one sister: Kathy Turney. Private services will be held by the family at a later date. Memorials are suggested to the Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice and may be left at or mailed to the Carson-Wall Funeral Home, P.O. Box 942, Parsons, KS 67357.
