Royce "Brother" Bruney, 77, of Houma, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Thursday, October 20, 2021.
He was born May 23, 1944 to parents Benjamin "Bennie" Bruney and Audrey Baudean Bruney in New Orleans, Louisiana. He married the love of his life, Jo Ellen Quinn on August 22, 1962 and have enjoyed 59 years of unconditional love and dedication to each other. Brother and Jo Ellen had three wonderful children, Keith, Kellie, and Lisa. He was preceded in death by his son, Keith in 2017, and brother, Gary in 2018, and sister, Pamela "Pam" in 2021.
He is survived by Jo Ellen and their daughters, Kellie Wann (Kevin) and Lisa Duplantis; their grandchildren, Keith Bruney (Candace), Ryan Bruney, Dustin Bruney, Quinn Duplantis, Annelise Duplantis, and Alayna Duplantis; great-grandchildren, Keegan, Colston, Cannon "Lil' Brother" Royce, and Kerrigan Bruney; siblings, JoAnn Lutz (Ronald), Christopher Bruney (Barbara), and Kathy Alley (Paul); as well as many nieces and nephews whom he loved dearly.
Brother loved being outdoors hunting, fishing, or mowing his lawn. He loved riding his John Deere tractor around the yard, and cheering on the New Orleans Saints. He worked for Energy Cranes for 23 years before retiring in 2014. He and Jo Ellen have been enjoying retirement, traveling to the coast, visiting the casinos, and spending time with family. He was a great man who will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
The family would like to thank Dr. Richard "Dickie" Haydel as well as the nurses and staff of Haydel Memorial Hospice for their care and compassion.
Visitation will be held Saturday, October 30, 2021, at Samart Funeral Home at 4511 West Park Ave, Gray, LA, 70359, from 1:00 pm until his Celebration of Life at 3:00 pm.
