John Hogan Obituary

John Francis Hogan II

Age 91, of Minneapolis, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, on October 20, 2021.

John was born on October 26, 1930 in Norwood, Minnesota to John and Magdalene (nee Mueller) Hogan. At the age of five, his family moved to south Minneapolis. After graduation from South High School, John attended business school, preparing him for his job in computer programming. On June 13,1953 he married Patricia Schultz. After living in Circle Pines for a few years - and a few kids - the couple moved back to John's childhood neighborhood and parish of Holy Rosary where he remained a devout member for the rest of his life.

After retiring from 26 years of computer programming at Werner's Trucking, John and a partner ran their own accounting business. John also worked as a bookkeeper for both Holy Rosary and Pax Christi churches.

When John really, really retired, he volunteered at the VA hospital's daycare, working with about 20 three year-olds every Tuesday morning. He was affectionately known as Grandpa John, the fun guy.

John loved to cook, and continued to do so right up until very recently. He was most famous for his German potato salad and dumplings. He would use seemingly every dish in the kitchen in his preparations. The cleanup was definitely worth it.

Card night with his kids was the highlight of his week. John was the official score keeper, which may be the reason for his many winning games.

John will forever be remembered as a loving husband, father and grandpa. He will be missed by all who knew him.

John was preceded in death by his parents; son, John Francis III “Shorty” Hogan; sister, Bernie Olin, brother-in-law, Bob Olin; sisters-in-law, Dolores Kurz and Dolores Hogan; and nephew Steve Olin.

John is survived by his loving wife, Patricia; children, Michael (Debbie), Patrick (Deb), James (Alice), Mary Bard (Bill), Caroline Barrientez (John), Katy Nelson (Dale), Daniel (Linda), and Thomas; siblings, Charles (Beverly), Jerome, and Polly Skoney (Ed); brother-in-law, Tom Kurz, along with 30 grand-children, 32 great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

A Funeral Mass for John will be held at 11 am, with reviewal one hour prior, on Oct. 26, John's 91st birthday, at Holy Rosary Church, 2424 18th Ave. S. in Minneapolis. Reception to be held at St. Albert the Great Church, in Minneapolis, following mass.

Masks required.
