Mary Ellen McDonnell Wunderlich, 92, of Fairmont passed away on Thursday, October 21, 2021 at her home. She was born August 4, 1929 in Peora, a daughter of the late William Joseph and Lavera Pearl Orr McDonnell. <br>She is survived by her daughter with whom she made her home, Susan Spencer and her wife, Lisa; her niece, Mickey Arco of Shinnston; her nephews, Bud McDonnell and his wife, Sandy of Shinnston; and Ron McDonnell of Florida; her special friends, Al Meredith – Klugh and his husband, Tim of California; Christina Cropp and her wife, Christina of Fairmont; and Barbara Allender and her husband, Barry of Florida. <br>In addition to her parents, Mary Ellen was preceded in death by her brothers, Talbott Eugene; John Michael; and William Joseph McDonnell. <br>Mery Ellen graduated from Shinnston High School in 1948. She went on to a higher education graduating from St. Mary’s School of Nursing in 1951 and then St. Joseph College in Maine where she received her Masters Degree in Public Health. Mary Ellen served our country in the U.S. Army Nurse Corps in 1958 and was honorably discharged with the rank of Major at Ft. Benning, GA in 1960. In later years, she enjoyed crafting, scrap booking, writing and poetry. She was a member of St. Ann Catholic Church in Shinnston. <br>A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, October 27th at 11:00 am at St. Ann Catholic Church, 43 Mahlon St. Shinnston, with Father Chris Turner officiating. Interment will follow at the Shinnston Memorial Cemetery where Military Funeral Rites will be accorded by the U.S. Army and the Harrison County Honor Guard. Cremation services were provided by Perine Funeral Home.
