Olga Kiernan Obituary

1929-2021 – Olga Kiernan Olga passed away peacefully on October 16th 2021, at the age of 92 with her daughters by her side. Predeceased by her husband Leonard (Kiernan) and long-time partner Harry (Tarrant). Brother Alec, and sisters Kate, Rose, Anna and Pearl. Survived by immediate family, brother Walter (Bev), daughters Catherine and Theresa (Mark), grandchildren Blake (Jessica), Eric, Robyn, Nicole and Lauren and great grandchild Ethan. Born in Myrnam, Alberta, Olga was the fifth daughter out of a family of 7 children of Ukrainian immigrant parents. In 1951 she graduated from the University of Toronto as an Occupational Therapist. In 1952 she started working at the Miller Bay Indian Hospital in Prince Rupert which is where she met her husband Len. In 1954 she began employment at Riverview Hospital (Essondale) in Vancouver, where she worked until they adopted their two daughters. In 1971 she started working at the North Vancouver Rec Centre where she remained for 26 years as Tiny Tot Tumbling instructor. She loved working with the children and was fondly known as North Vancouver’s Grandmother. Mom stayed in her family home for 60 years, and loved spending time working in her gardens which were the talk of the neighbourhood. Mom also enjoyed entertaining her extended family when they came into town. No services at her request, in lieu of flowers a donation can be made to the Alzheimer’s Society of BC. Those we love do not go away. They walk beside us every day. Unseen, unheard but always near. Still loved, still missed, and ever dear.
