Russell Walter Hertel, 85, of Elgin, passed away on October 20, 2021 at Sherman Hospital, Elgin. He was born on May 24, 1936 in Elgin, IL the son of Walter and Ruby (Piehl) Hertel. He was a Veteran and served in the US Army. Russell had worked for Illinois Bell (AT&T), and retired as an Account Executive. In retirement, he enjoyed traveling with his wife Linda, playing golf, attending his grandchildrens’ events, and also spending time at St. Germain, WI, fishing with his grandchildren. He was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church of Elgin Survivors include his wife: Linda (Peterson) of Elgin; two sons: Paul (Kathy) Hertel and Jon (Lori) Hertel; and six grandchildren: Abigail (Dylan), Matthew, Benjamin, Madison, Jessica and Nathan. He was preceded in death by his parents. Visitation will be held on Sunday, October 24, 2021, from 4:00pm-6:00pm at the Laird Funeral Home, Elgin, with a service of remembrance beginning at 5:30pm.
