Cumberland, MD – Robert “Bob” Hunter Meister, 95, of Cumberland, MD, passed away Tuesday, October 19, 2021, in the home in which he was born.
Born August 11, 1926, in Cumberland, MD, Mr. Meister was the son of the late Lawrence Eckert Meister and Elsie Ferguson (Zembower) Meister. He was the youngest of 12 siblings and the last surviving member of his immediate family.
A United States Army/Air Corps Veteran, Bob retired from the Cumberland City Fire Department rising to the rank of Assistant Chief. He had a passion for gardening and was a master builder with a green thumb. Bob was a life-long member of Saint Luke’s Lutheran Church where he was very active as a volunteer. He enjoyed driving for Meals-on-Wheels and was always busy helping any person with any project. Bob was a compassionate man visiting friends and family in nursing homes and tending to the needs of his older siblings and their spouses. He leaves behind a large and grateful family who he dearly loved.
Friends will be received at the Adams Family Funeral Home, P.A., 404 Decatur Street, Cumberland, MD, on Saturday, October 23, 2021, from 3:00 P.M. to 6:00 P.M.
A funeral service will be conducted at Saint Luke’s Lutheran Church, 1601 Frederick Street, Cumberland, on Sunday, October 24, 2021, at 1:30 P.M., with Pastor Sally Bartling officiating. The family will also receive friends one hour prior to the service. Masks are to be worn.
Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Park.
