Mr. Joseph M. Bowman, Sr., 77, of Tomstown Road, Waynesboro, PA, passed away Wednesday, October 20, 2021 in Chambersburg Hospital. Born January 22, 1944 in Waynesboro, he was the son of the late Charles W., Sr. and Mazie I. (Willard) Bowman. Mr. Bowman attended Quincy Schools. In his early life, he worked at Quincy Orchards and then Littlestown Shoe Factory. He later worked at Quincy Service Station under Johnny Gates for several years before owning and operating the business for 7 years. He was last employed by Total Energy Services from 1981 until his retirement in 2009. Mr. Bowman was a member of Mountain Top Ministries and Waynesboro Fish and Game Association. He was a former member of several local clubs including Loyal Order of Moose, Fraternal Order of Eagles and the AmVets. A man who loved the outdoors, he especially appreciated time he spent hunting, fishing, archery shooting and hunting mushrooms. He could often be found sitting on the porch swing, waving to friends and neighbors as they passed by. He was an avid collector of many things, even things no one else would ever collect. Rides thru the mountains were a favorite past time and folks knew they could always count on him to lend a helping hand even in the middle of a snow storm. Mr. Bowman is survived by his wife of over 56 years, Mrs. Margaret R. (Bream) Bowman, whom he married February 20, 1965; four children, Margaret I. Printz and her husband, Trent, Charles R. Bowman and his wife, Dawn, John A. Bowman and his wife, Brandi and James M. Bowman and his wife, Carrie; 12 grandchildren, Ryan Archambeau, Erin Brindle, Jesse Cline, Ivy Jo Duncan, Jacob Printz, Devin C. Bowman, Rebeccah K. Bowman, Ayden C. Bowman, Shelby A. Bowman, Isaac J. Bowman, Tristin A. Bowman and Chelsea D. Bowman; 10 great-grandchildren, Madison, Tempi, Josie, Kiley, Devin,Tucker, Christopher, Lydia, Wesley and Maxwell; brother, Charles W. “Bill” Bowman, Jr. and his wife, Julia of Chambersburg; his feline companion, Tommy; and a number of nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one son, Joseph M. Bowman, Jr.; grandson, Joseph Cullen; and great-grandson, Samson. Services will be held at 10:00 A.M., Monday, October 25, 2021 in Grove-Bowersox Funeral Home, 50 South Broad Street, Waynesboro, with Pastors Ken Reid and Ron Parr officiating. Burial will follow in Parklawns Memorial Gardens, Chambersburg. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 P.M., Sunday, in the funeral home.
