Douglas Clark McNeil, born May 12th 1949, passed peacefully the morning of October 16th at his home in Marietta. Doug was a loving father to Michael and Kim, doting grandfather to Remington, cherished husband, loyal brother, steadfast friend, and man of faith.
His marriage to his wife, Melanie, lasted 44 happy years and he would be quick to tell you that he could not have done any better. Doug took pride in his sales ability, service in the United States Navy, and excellence on the golf course.
A man of quick wit and strong opinions, he believed wholeheartedly in the Scottish prayer: “Lord please make me right, for you know I won’t change my mind.”
Doug is survived by his wife, Melanie (nee Potter), son Michael Douglas, daughter Kimberly Rebecca McNeil-Smith (Micah), grandson Remington “Remmy” Smith, and siblings John Vallee McNeil IV (Joanne), Kathy Vogel (David), and Denise Fote (Donald). He was preceded in death by his younger sister, Bonnie Cox.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, October 30 at 1:00 pm at the Episcopal Church of St. Peter and St. Paul, 1795 Johnson Ferry Road, Marietta, GA. 30062
