David Ortiz Obituary

David (Davey) Michael Ortiz, 75, of Ottawa, passed away on Monday, October 18, 2021, at OSF St. Elizabeth Medical Center with his family by his side.  Visitation will be held at Ottawa Funeral Home on Friday, October 22 from 4 -7 pm.  A private graveside ceremony will be held on the morning of Saturday, October 23.

David was born on May 8, 1946, in Ottawa, Illinois to Benito and Juana (Rojas) Ortiz. He married Ruby (Biggs) Ortiz on August 5, 1965.

He worked at Libby Owens Glass factory for over 30 years and continued working hard by running his lawn business, servicing yards across the Ottawa area for many years.  Davey was very proud of his two sons and adored his three grandchildren and six great grandchildren who knew him as their “Bopiga.” More than anything, he thoroughly enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.  On the days you could not reach him, Davey could be found in a tree stand in the woods or catching fish from his boat on the river.  He was an avid outdoorsman and sportsman and his love for the outdoors was reflected by him being inducted to the LaSalle County Sportsman Hall of Fame in 2011.

Davey is survived by his two sons, David Jr. (Donna) Ortiz and Jeffrey Ortiz; three grandchildren, Allyssa (Mike) Sereno, Alexandra (Kent) DuBois, and Michael (Tania) Ortiz; and six great-grandchildren, Olivia, Bailey, Evelyn, and Alaina Sereno, Kaleb and Gianna DuBois; brother, Dr. Phil Ortiz; brother-in-law, Raymond Perez; and sister-in-law, Judy Ortiz as well as many nieces and nephews.

Davey was preceded in death by his parents, Benito and Juana Ortiz; his wife, Ruby (Biggs) Ortiz; sister, Mary (Ortiz) Perez; three brothers, Richard (Dick), Anthony (Tony), and Daniel (Danny) Ortiz; sisters-in-law, Gay Ortiz, Margaret Ortiz, and Pat Ortiz, and a nephew, Richard (Rick) Perez.

Davey will truly be missed by those who knew him, but his memories will live on through the countless family members and friends he had.

Pallbearers will be Michael D. Ortiz, Steve Loughridge, Mike Sereno, Kent DuBois, John Schiffgens and Dave Cheli.

Memorials may be directed to family.
