Barbara (Gould) Mathewson, 79, beloved wife for 62 years of John N. Mathewson, Jr. of Avery Street, Pawcatuck, passed away at The Westerly Hospital on Sunday, October 17, 2021. Born in Westerly, she was the daughter of the late Celeste and Roger Gould, Sr. Barbara worked as a Dealer for Foxwoods Resort and Casino for many years and had also been a Teacher’s Aide at West Broad Street School. Barbara was a member of Central Baptist Church and a participant at the Pawcatuck Neighborhood Center. Known as an accomplished artist, she specialized in oil paintings that were shown in Downtown Westerly galleries. In addition to her devoted husband, she leaves their six children, Kellee Randmetz and Dana Tucker, both of Bradford, Karen Hensley of Mystic, Susan Cozzolino and Travis Mathewson both of Pawcatuck, and Tracy Mathewson of Westerly. Barbara also leaves two siblings, Roger Gould, Jr. of Sparta, TN and Jacquelyn Sanders of Ivoryton, CT; thirteen grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Visiting hours will be held on Wednesday, Oct. 20th from 5-7pm at Gaffney-Dolan Funeral Home, 59 Spruce St., Westerly. A Funeral Service will take place at 10am on Thursday, Oct. 21st at Central Baptist Church, Westerly. There is no procession from the funeral home to church. Burial will follow at Pendleton Hill Cemetery, North Stonington, CT. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Central Baptist Church, 16 Elm St., Westerly, RI 02891 in Barbara’s memory.
