Panagiota Panagiotopoulos Obituary

It is with great sadness that the family of Panagiota (Toula) Panagiotopoulos (nee Theofilogiannakos) announce her passing on Monday October 18, 2021, at the age of 84 years after a lengthy battle with ovarian cancer. Toula, beloved wife of the late Stelios (Steve) Panagiotopoulos, loving mother to Maria (Gus) and Chris (Maria), and the greatest yiayia to Sotiri, Constantina, Paige and Stelio, will be deeply missed. The eldest of five children, Toula was born in Logastra, Lakonia, Greece and moved to Toronto where she built a life with her husband Steve. A retiree of the Toronto Transit Commission, Toula will be remembered as the matriarch of her family. Described as selfless and hard-working, Toula never waned in her support and love of her children and grandchildren. Toula’s wisdom and life lessons bestowed upon her children and grandchildren will forever be cherished as will the many pivotal roles she played as a teacher, caregiver, counsellor, confidant and five-star chef. Toula battled cancer with grace, courage, and despite her condition, continued to be a pillar of strength to her family and friends. A million words cannot fully describe her; she was incredible, irreplaceable and incomparable. “To the world she was a mother, but to her family, she was the world”. The family would like to thank Dr. Liat Hogen and all the staff at Princess Margaret Cancer Centre as well as staff at Bridgepoint Health Centre for the care and compassion offered to Toula throughout her battle with illness. The family will receive friends and family at HERITAGE FUNERAL CENTRE, 50 Overlea Blvd., Toronto on Thursday October 21 from 4-8p.m. A funeral service will be held on Friday October 22nd at 1:00p.m. at ST. DEMETRIOS GREEK ORTHODOX CHURCH, 30 Thorncliffe Park Drive. Interment to follow at Pine Hills Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Princess Margaret Cancer Centre or the Hellenic Home for the Aged.
