Kurt Allen Simister Obituary

Kurt Allen Simister beloved husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, son and brother passed away in his home with his loving family by his side at the age of 69. Having been diagnosed just 6 weeks prior, he was taken too quickly from an aggressive disease and will be greatly missed.

Kurt was born on June 1, 1952 in Coalville, Utah to Leon and Louise Simister. He was raised with 2 brothers and 3 sisters. With 6 children, his childhood home was filled with love, kindness, and chaos. It was from his family that he learned the values of unconditional love and hardwork. Kurt’s determination and strength came from his father, while his kind heart and quiet demeanor came from his mother and his much admired Grandpa Nichols. As a family, they enjoyed camping on the Whitney in an old army tent with numerous friends. Kurt and his father were avid hunters and loved the outdoors. Hunting was a passion that he passed down and shared with his own son, Gabe and later on his grandchildren. We would love to elaborate, but as you know, what happens on the hill, stays on the hill.

Kurt graduated from North Summit High School in Coalville, Utah, Class of 1970. He was athletic and excelled in wrestling and football. Kurt was granted a scholarship to Weber State for his accomplishments in wrestling. He later transferred to Salt Lake Community College to pursue a career in auto body. During this time he began dating, in his words, “the cutest little blond girl he’d ever seen”. Kurt and Anna Marie Warner were married January 26, 1973. They built a home in Coalville, where they raised their three wonderful children, Misty, Melissa, and Gabe. Kurt’s greatest joy in life was his family. He was a homebody and loved spending time with his wife, children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. He was especially close to his son, Gabe, who shared his love of music and cars.

Dad loved music. He played the bass guitar and drums and was in a band named the AmBoyds  which was later called Shadowfacts. They played in numerous Battles of the Bands and won several years in a row. He was a talented artist and was always drawing and sketching out his future projects in great detail. Most recently, he was restoring his 1966 Mustang Fastback and was looking forward to getting it back on the road. He had also collected and nurtured a feral cat population that he named, hand fed, and loved dearly.

Kurt and his father, Leon, worked side by side in their family owned business Simister Construction. Together they built many homes in Summit and Wasatch counties. Kurt later started his own business building houses, barns, and campgrounds. After a back injury prevented him from working in construction, Kurt changed careers and became a building inspector. He worked for Coalville City and Henefer City before an opportunity presented itself at Park City Municipal. He was hired on and worked under Ron Ivie as a building inspector, taking every class available to further his knowledge, eventually earning the position of Park City Fire Marshall. This was his childhood dream.  Kurt retired in 2018 from Park City Municipal after 24 years of service from a job he truly loved.

Kurt was preceded in death by his parents Leon and Louise Simister, parents in-law Karl and Berniece Warner, and his good friend and brother in-law Kim Warner. He is survived by his loving wife, Anna; children, Misty (Jared) Dixon, Melissa (Bryant) Hull, Gabe Simister; grandchildren, Whitley (Jordan) Cornwall, Mason Dixon, Hayden Hull, Emerie Hull; great grandchildren Cannon Cornwall, Racey Ann Cornwall; siblings, Kevin (Marilyn) Simister, Jim (Dena) Simister, Melanie (Arnie) Bosworth, Marcie Palmer, Tammy (Ray) Robinson.

The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to Encompass Hospice (Dr. Wain Allen, Sheryl and Corey Ann), Jeanette Vernon, and Kurt’s sister, Melanie Bosworth. They would also like to thank the many family, friends, and neighbors who brought meals and offered their love and support during this difficult time.

Funeral services will be held Friday, October 22, 2021 at 12:00 pm in the Ledges Event Center located at 202 Park Road, Coalville, Utah.  A viewing will be held prior to the services from 10:30-11:45.  Interment will be at the Coalville City Cemetery following the service.
