Graveside services for Belle “Bel La Jo” Locke, 86, of Athens, are scheduled for 10:00 a.m., Friday, October 22, 2021, at Oaklawn Memorial Park in Athens with Bro. Frank Upchurch officiating. Ms. Locke passed away on October 18, 2021, in Athens. Minnie Belle (Garner) Locke was born January 12, 1935, in Athens, Texas the daughter of Luther Garner and Annie Laura (Davis) Garner. Belle was a member of the Cross Roads Baptist Church and loved her family, especially her grandbabies. She was a dedicated hairdresser for over 45 years in Harris and Henderson Counties and her clients knew they were her priority. She was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who will be missed by many. Her family would like to extend a special thanks to her caregivers Melba and Bob and to Sherri Miller with Hospice Plus. She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband Ednel Locke; siblings, Teddy Roosevelt Garner and Norma Jean Allen; her son, Darrell Allen; daughter, Lucretia Steagall and great granddaughter Kinzley Ramirez. Bel La Jo is survived by her two daughters, Byron Ramirez and husband Sammy Sr., of Athens, Johnnie Allen and husband Steve of Athens; daughter-in-law Lisa Allen of Larue; son-in-law Thomas Steagall of Corsicana; six grandchildren, Blaine Allen and wife Candace, Marissa Hamilton and husband Jim, Sammy Ramirez Jr. and wife Chasity, Jenifer Walker and husband Tyler, Cody Ramirez and wife Haley, Bret Allen and eight great-grandchildren, Beckham Allen, Genevieve Allen, James Hamilton, Hayes Hamilton, Penelope Hamilton, Rylan Ramirez, Karson Ramirez, Callie Ramirez. A visitation will be held from 6-8:00 p.m., Thursday, October 21, 2021, at the Hannigan Smith Funeral Home in Athens. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to an organization supporting Alzheimer’s research. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to the Hannigan Smith Funeral Home family.
