LEONA McCARTHY

Leona McCarthy of RR1 Dublin passed away peacefully at the Ritz Lutheran Villa on Monday, October 18, 2021 on her 80th birthday.

Beloved wife of Keith McCarthy. Much loved mom of Dave and Tricia, Dan and Sandra, Jan and Kevin and Jo-Anne and Derek. Treasured grandma of Matt, Joe, Emily, Sam, Owen, Paige; Alyssa, Jared, Laura, Avery; Adrienna and Quinton, Kaylen and Tyler, Jack, Luke, Ally, Bennett; Raeya and Thys. Dear sister of Anne Doherty, Margaret and Tom Kearns, Bill and June Krauskopf, Cecilia and John Schoonderwoerd. Dear sister-in-law of Sharon Krauskopf and Barb Krauskopf. Also surviving are many nieces and nephews.

Predeceased by her parents Nicholas and Agnes Krauskopf, father-in-law and mother-in-law Lloyd and Mary McCarthy, sisters and brothers Mary and Basil Horan, Joe and Alma Krauskopf, Betty and Bob Price, John and Dorothy Krauskopf, Philip Krauskopf, Clara and Norm Kramers, Catherine and Bill Feeney, Frank Krauskopf and brother-in-law Fred Doherty.

Leona was the youngest of thirteen children. She graduated from Stratford Teachers College and taught in Stratford before staying home to raise her family. Leona and Keith purchased the school bus company in Dublin in 1975 and worked together for 16 years operating KL McCarthy buses before retiring in 1991. In retirement, Leona loved spending time with her grandchildren, morning walks, reading, volunteering, outings with her friends, get-togethers with her siblings, camping and winters in Florida. She was a woman of great faith and a member of the CWL for over 50 years. Her prayers were written and posted throughout her home. Although Alzheimer’s Disease stole her of her memories these last few years, she will forever remain in ours.

Friends will be received at the Lockhart Funeral Home, 109 Montreal St., Mitchell on Thursday, October 21, 2021 from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Those wishing to attend the visitation must register online at LockhartFuneralHome.com or by phone at 519-348-8643. All coming must have a scheduled time and wear a mask. A private family funeral mass will be held. Interment in St. Patrick's Catholic Cemetery, Dublin.
