Robert Duncan Thomas Obituary

Robert “Duncan” Thomas of Huber Heights, OH, entered his eternal rest, after a brief illness, on Friday, October 15, 2021. Born in Dayton, OH on December 18, 1955, Duncan graduated from Fairview High School in 1975. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1976-1980 after which he earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting in 1985 from Wilberforce University, Master of Education degree in Educational Leadership in 2011 from Antioch University Midwest, and Master of Education degree in Intervention Specialist in 2016 from Wright State University. Duncan was baptized at Phillips Temple C.M.E Church by Bishop Marshall Gilmore (Retired), where he was a member for several years.  Duncan later joined People’s Community C.M.E. Church where he served faithfully as a member of the Trustee Board until his illness. Duncan worked for Montgomery County Courts (Ohio) for 21 years where he was an Accounting Supervisor. Duncan was an avid sports fan and proudly represented his favorite football and basketball teams – Pittsburgh Steelers, LA Lakers, University of Alabama (Roll Tide) football, University of Connecticut (UConn) girls’ basketball, and the University of North Carolina (Chapel Hill) Tar Heels.  It was not uncommon to see him decked out his teams’ sport gear or for that matter any sports gear. Duncan’s love of basketball led him into a coaching career for several teams in the Miami Valley area. He served as the coach for Meadowdale, Dunbar, Yellow Springs, Springfield, Northmont, and Kenton Ridge High School girls basketball teams.  He also coached AAU girls’ and boys’ basketball for Surge, Dayton Nets, and Dayton Metro. Duncan leaves to cherish his memory his wife Sheri Brown Thomas, his parents, Robert and Elva Lois Thomas, his sister Sheila Bruce (Cedric) of Maryland, one daughter, Candace Pitts (Raoul), four sons, Jedidiah Piersoll, Jonathan Piersoll, Dwight Thomas, and Christopher Brown (Nina), three nephews, Andre Bruce (Ashley) of Washington, DC, Aaron Bruce of Maryland, and Liam O’Dowd of Virginia, and three nieces, Caitlin O’Dowd of Texas, Fallon O’Dowd of California, and Roisin O’Dowd of Virginia, and six grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his brother Robert A. Thomas III and dear friend Nathaniel Hockett The family would like to thank the Kettering Memorial Medical Center Department of Oncology physicians and nurses, and Hospice of Dayton.
