<p>Longtime Monte Vista resident Florine “Ann” Garcia, 88, passed away on October 5, 2021 at River Valley Inn Nursing Home. She was born on December 26, 1932 in Port Arthur, Texas to T.L. and Clara (Yougblood) Vaughan. Ann graduated from High School in Roaring Spring, Texas. She married Jose Leo Garcia on February 14, 1983 in Monte Vista. Ann went on to get her Certificate as a Nurses Aid. </p><p><br></p><p>Family and friends remember Ann as a caring and optimistic person. She enjoyed crocheting and gifted many of her friends with blankets for baby showers or holiday gifts. She became more than just a resident at River Valley Inn. So many grew to love her and hold her dear to their hearts. Her passing will touch all who loved her.</p><p><br></p><p>She is survived by her sister Lou Whittler of Matador, Texas as well as her nieces and nephews Tim Cooper, Tom Cooper and Heather Vaughan; sister-in-laws Naomi Alire, Lorraine (Ben) Sandoval and Annette Garcia of Longmont, as well as other extended family and friends in Monte Vista and Del Norte. </p><p><br></p><p>Ann was preceded in death by her parents and her husband Jose “Leo” Garcia and her brother J.C. Vaughan.</p><p>Cremation was selected and interment of ashes will take place in the San Luis Valley Cemetery in Monte Vista.
