James M. Verros Obituary

James (Jim) Marion Verros peacefully passed away at Avera McKennan Hospital on Saturday, October 16, 2021 at the age of 69 surrounded by family and holding his wife's hand. Jim was born in Hassenroth, Kreis Erbach, Germany on April 5, 1952 to Wilbert and Margarete Verros. He came to the United States at 6 months old. He graduated from West Sioux High School in 1970 and attended Western Iowa Tech Community College. He worked at Coilcraft Inc in Hawarden, IA and Load King in Elk Point, SD. He was united in marriage with Marta Keegan on June 3, 1995 in Elk Point, SD, where they have built their life together and enjoyed being part of the community. He started working at SmithCo Side Dump Trailers in LeMars, IA in February 1998. In the 23+ years that Jim worked for SmithCo, he was responsible for designing and developing the vast majority of the trailers that are currently part of SmithCo’s trailer product offering. No one in the world designed more side dump trailers than Jim Verros. Jim loved spending time with his family, riding his motorcycle and driving his corvette. He could always be found fixing something for his family. As his grandchildren would say, "if Papa can't fix it, no one can". He was a long time elected official of the Elk Point City Council, current member of the ABATE motorcycle club, and former member of the Elk Point Fire Department. He enjoyed attending services at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Elk Point, SD. Jim is preceded in death by his parents; brother, Will Verros; sister, Marita Rotella; brother-in-law, Bob Rabusch; and best friend Geno Hamel. Jim is survived by his loving wife of 26 years, Marta Keegan-Verros. He is lovingly remembered by his children, Jessica (Doug) Sanders, Tami (Brad) Olsen, Jamie (Mark) Hoffman, Melissa (Ryan) Fickbohm, Jessica Keegan, Justin (Ashleigh) Keegan, and Jalisa (Derek) Spittler. Papa to 17 grandchildren. Cherished by sisters Karen (Michael) Schnieder, Sandra (Michael) Holubar, Joanne (Shawn) Munns; brother-in-law Mark (Susan) Keegan; brother-in-law Richard Rotella; sister-in-law Monica Verros; and beloved by many nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Elk Point, SD on Thursday, October 21, 2021 from 6:00pm-7:00pm with prayer service to follow. Funeral services will be held at Immanuel Lutheran Church on Friday, October 22, 2021 at 10:30am under the direction of Kober Funeral Home with Pastor Erik Olson officiating. The service will be livestreamed at www.immanuelelkpoint.com.
