Jane Lee Nosal, 96, passed away peacefully at North Crest Senior living on October 14 th , 2021. Jane Lee was born in Belleville, Illinois on April, 14th 1925 to Burl and Wella (Woerner) Tatum. She had one brother, Patrick Meyer. Jane Lee met the love of her life, Paul Nosal, in 1941 in Belleville. They married on July 13, 1942 and moved to Sioux Falls, South Dakota, where Paul was stationed in the US Armed Forces. After the war, they lived in South Bend, Indiana before setting down roots in Bethpage, New York. Jane Lee took instantly to her new home in New York, and considered herself a life-long New Yorker. Throughout their 62-year marriage, Jane Lee and Paul enjoyed traveling, playing bridge, and hosting dinner parties. Jane Lee’s son, Paul Douglas Nosal, was born in 1949. Jane Lee took great pride in her son’s medical career and many other pursuits. Jane Lee was known as “Fancy Grandma” to her granddaughters and great-granddaughters, in homage to her jazzy outfits, legendary collection of shoes, and enduring grace and style. She liked to share her special formula for how to impress: “be prepared, know your subject, and always dress for success!” Her family loved her vibrant stories and sayings, no-nonsense attitude, and devotion and loyalty to those close to her. Jane Lee was a 60+ year member of the General Federation of Women’s Clubs, serving as President of the New York chapter, President of the Mid-Atlantic region and Parliamentarian. She treasured her friendships with GFWC members from around the country, and traveled extensively to GFWC conventions and events. Jane Lee moved to Stevens Point, Wisconsin in 2006 to be closer to family. In Stevens Point she enjoyed making friends through the Stevens Point Women’s Club, Bridge clubs, and at Brookdale Senior Living. In 2020, she moved to North Crest Assisted Living. Her family is grateful to the staff at both Brookdale and North Crest for their support and compassion. Jane Lee was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Paul Nosal; and her son, Paul Douglas Nosal, MD. She is survived by her brother, Patrick Meyer, of Belleville, Illinois, her daughter-in-law, Dorie (Phillip) Hamilton of Plover, Wisconsin, her granddaughter, Amy (Matthew) Straus of Tucson, Arizona with great-granddaughters Kaitlyn and Emily; and granddaughter Kathleen Nosal (Andreas Braun) of Luxembourg City, Luxembourg. A funeral Mass will be held at St. Bronislava Catholic Church in Plover, WI on Wednesday, October 20 th at 10:30am. A private burial will be held at Calverton National Cemetery in Calverton, NY. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the GFWC Disaster Relief – Library Replenishment Fund in Jane Lee’s honor.
